Business Post plans online C2C market

Parcel and letter delivery service Business Post plans to launch a new service to capture online trade, while remaining focused on cutting costs.

Speaking at the Mail and Express Delivery Show in London, Business Post chief executive Guy Buswell said the firm was looking to enter the consumer-to-consumer market made popular by internet services such as eBay.

"We hope to introduce a C2C service in the near future to delve into growing online sales. We believe we can let customers know we are there and we see it as a good area for growth," said Buswell.

Earlier this month rival parcel delivery firm Hermes said it was using social networking sites such as Facebook to attract people to its C2C service, which went live in April.

Also in April, Business Post's Buswell said cost savings of £1.2m had been achieved during the past financial year by three depot closures, a 5% reduction in the fleet, and 150 redundancies, most of which were office-based. This week he said the focus on cutting overheads would continue.
