After several shootings in the neighborhood, La Poste suspends mail delivery in Vénissieux

La Poste is interrupting postmen’s rounds in a district of Vénissieux, on the outskirts of Lyon, until further notice. She fears for the safety of her postal workers. Three attempted homicides took place in less than 24 hours.

Residents’ mailboxes will be empty. To collect their mail, some of the residents of Vénissieux, near Lyon (Rhône), will now be forced to go to the post office. In question, the decision of La Poste to suspend mail delivery to certain addresses on Boulevard Joliot-Curie, following three shootings in a few days at the end of last week. These episodes of violence are based on a backdrop of score-settling linked to drug trafficking in a neighborhood regularly affected by turf wars.

In a press release, the management of La Poste du Rhône declared “suspending the distribution of mail and parcels” in two sections of streets to “guarantee the safety of postal agents”, confirming information from Lyon Mag.

A suspension without a resumption date
The unserved addresses range from numbers 103 to 127 boulevard, as well as 50 and 52 rue Vallet. Residents of the numbers concerned will therefore have to go directly to the post office between 9:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. La Poste also specifies that distribution “will resume when the safety conditions for our postmen are met”.
