A delivery driver is thought to have suffered a 'medical episode' before his van crashed into railings. Police and paramedics had been sent to the scene on the outskirts of Keele this morning.

Images from the scene show the van had hit the railings on Keele Road just before the roundabout near Thistleberry. Now West Midlands Ambulance Service has confirmed the driver, a man, was taken to the Royal Stoke University Hospital after paramedics suspected he'd suffered a 'medical episode'.

The collision occurred just before 8.45am.

A spokeswoman said: "We were called to reports of a road traffic collision on Keele Road and sent an ambulance to the scene. On arrival, crews found a van had come off the road and hit some railings. The driver, a man, is suspected to have suffered a medical episode at the wheel and was conveyed to the Royal Stoke University Hospital following treatment by paramedics at the scene."
