A councillor has said he is "absolutely disgusted" by a "lack of regard" he claims is surrounding demolition works in Shaw.
Cllr Howard Sykes MBE, leader of the Oldham Liberal Democrats, has slammed Oldham Council's Environmental Health team after saying residents have been affected by dust and mess due to the demolition works at the former Yodel site on Beal Lane.
Discussing the works and the impact it has had on the area, Cllr Sykes said: "I constantly receive complaints about the state of the work being done on the former Yodel site.
"The dust and the mess caused by the works and vehicles has been a problem for months now.
"But when I referred this to the council Environmental Health Team, the issue has just been dismissed after an officer visited on a day where no work was taking place and also visited the wrong part of the site on Linney Lane."
The former Yodel site closed down last year, leaving many people unemployed.
Demolition works have now been ongoing for a few months, which follows years of demolition works around the Linney Lane area which is set for redevelopment for housing.
Cllr Sykes added: "It’s very clear that the measures the developer agreed to at the start of the project – like damping to prevent dust and effective street sweeping – are not being enforced.
"I’m absolutely disgusted by the lack of regard and lack of action being shown to Shaw residents."
Oldham Council has been approached for comment.
