A Yodel driver was caught delivering more than parcels when his van was stopped by police.

Officers on Deepdale Road, Preston, noticed a van being driven with only its delay lights on at 3am on December 18, 2022. They followed the vehicle and signalled it to stop on Ribbleton Lane.

The driver got out and identified himself as Albert Tusznio, saying he was working as a delivery driver for Yodel. He failed a roadside breath test and was arrested for drink driving.

As he was put in the van, PC Baxendale found cigarettes and a plastic bag containing what he believed to be cannabis in Tusznio's pocket. He also found a white rock in another plastic bag.

A backpack, in the passenger seat of the van contained more cannabis, electric scales and £405 in cash. The drugs and Tusznio's mobile phone were taken for analysis, along with snapbags containing cannabis and white powder found at his home.

Drugs expert Stuart Duckworth, of Lancashire Police, analysed the drugs and found there was 31.3g of amphetamine and 96.9g of cannabis, with a combined value of between £853 - £1,260.

Text messages, translated from Polish, read: "Yes bro, sorting now bro... be in touch Friday", "how much you need?" "Ounce for Friday" along with other messages discussing drugs, weights and prices.

Tusznio pleaded guilty to two counts of possession with intent to supply class B drugs relating to cannabis and amphetamines. He appeared at Preston Crown Court to be sentenced. Representing himself, he told the court he was selling the drugs to close friends.

Judge Richard Archer, sentencing, said: "You accept you were involved on a social level with the supply of drugs. Your offending is made more serious by there being two types of drugs."

He sentenced Tusznio to six months suspended for 12 months with 150 hours of unpaid work and £150 costs.
