A man was arrested on Monday in Maldegem, East Flanders, after allegedly stealing a bpost van in Ghent, the East Flanders public prosecutor said on Tuesday.
The van was stolen at midday on Monday while a postman was on his rounds. The suspect fled towards Maldegem, and was easily found by police through the vehicle’s on-board tracking system.
The man was apprehended with the help of an overhead helicopter and a drone.
He appeared before an investigating magistrate in Ghent on Tuesday, and was placed under arrest.
He is scheduled to appear on Friday before the council chamber, which will decide whether he is to continue in detention.
