More than 100 postal workers marched through the streets of Corby to protest against the privatisation of Royal Mail.
The workers were angry that MP Phil Hope has failed to sign an early day motion objecting to Lord Peter Mandelson's plan to part-privatise the delivery system.
But Mr Hope cannot sign the motion as he is a government minister.
Workers called for his resignation, and then handed him a P45 telling him he was 'sacked'.
About 150 members of the Communication Workers Union were involved in yesterday's noisy march from the Corby Steelman statue in George Street, down Corporation Street, through New Post Office Square, along Elizabeth Street to Phil Hope's monthly surgery at the former TA building.
Post sorter Gareth Eales protestor dressed as a chicken to demonstrate his feelings towards Mr Hope.
He said: "Phil Hope is too chicken to sign the early day motion so that's why I've come dressed as 'chicken Phil.'"
And Corby depot union rep John Kenrick, who has been a postal worker for 15 years, said: "What they are trying to do to Royal Mail is despicable."
After the march, Phil Hope spoke to workers outside the former TA building. He said: "I do support a publicly owned Royal Mail but as a member of the Government I cannot sign an early day motion.
"I have already made the Government aware of the strong views held by a number of my constituents and I will continue to talk to the CWU about the proposed changes."
After the march, workers went to a rally at the Trades and Labour Club in Stuart Road to hear speeches from union leaders and a recorded message of support from socialist and former cabinet minister Tony Benn.
