Everybody needs good neighbours – Royal Mail’s delivery to neighbour trial
Published: 13 June 2012
Royal Mail is operating in a declining market, but one type of mail that we are sending more of is fulfilment mail (mail that is sent to fulfil an order, for example made online or via catalogues). Much of this type of mail is either too large to fit through the letterbox or requires a signature on delivery (this is known as ‘undeliverable’ post).
In September 2011 Postcomm (the then regulator) approved Royal Mail’s application for permission to trial leaving such items with the recipient’s neighbour in order to make delivery more convenient. A three-month trial commenced on 28 November 2011 in six areas across the UK.
We wanted to know how well informed consumers living in trial areas were, how they felt about the trial and whether they felt they benefitted from participating. This report contains our findings.http://www.consumerfocus.org.uk/files/2012/06/Everybody-needs-good-neighbours.pdf

Re: Royal Mail’s delivery to neighbour trial
No doubt extra time will be taken into consideration when we have to start knocking on doors up and down the road trying to leave a parcel at a neighbours.
And how many neighbours hate each other and will say " i never took a parcel in" postman must have stole it

I will keep on taking them back to the office, having left a 739 card saying I'd called.

Not a good idea. Technically it's already done by RM
If you order something, be in, simple. If I'm ordering anything big I always time it so it should be here for my day off (but it makes no odds now since I work for RM)

Re: Royal Mail’s delivery to neighbour trial
I have no intention of doing it. They wont be making the walks any smaller as a result of the extra time involved. In fact the other day on just 1 loop i had 21 doors to knock on. How much more time wasted trying a neighbour.
