sorry, as an outsider i think it seems reasonable. The fact that people are no longer immediately taken off pay due to performance and it will be raised with the union first. And the fact ACAS will have a rep involved now is positive. Sorry, thats what i think

I think the important part is 'How will local managers actually deal with this?' My office had a revision forced through by EA but to fix it would require 100's of hours to be put back into the office and I can't see that happening.

Come January they are going to press on with their idea of modernisation regardless.

Royal Mail's only agenda in these talks were to delay srike action past the Christmas period.

What exactly is new here?

All the goodwill in the world will not resolve the issues in a weak office.

Talk, talk, talk, talk - the CWU have been bamboozled again, they sell us out cheaply for a couple of ham sandwiches and a few kind words.

Does anyone on this forum truly believe that Royal Mail have any intention whatsoever of stopping the tactics they have employed so successfully in the last 18 months?

Does anyone at the CWU understand what goes on at the sharp end? All those items: work patterns, D2D, measurement, etc have been supposedly up for discussion forever and that blase statement "in the meantime all national agreements will remain in place" - they aren't in place NOW, changes have been steamrollered in time after time - are they still to stand - the park and loop duties with 4hr 15 delivery spans are they agreed at National level? and if not will they be rescinded? Of course not.

This is nothing more than the 2007/2009 Pay and Modernisation Agreement revisited.

The CWU does not deserve the support of the rank and file membership and they will not get any more money from me to support their lavish gravy train lifestyle.

Regardless of the interim agreement being good or bad you are 100% accurate with that statement.

Letter to Branches

No. 982/09 Ref: Date: 6th November 2009

TO: ALL BRANCHES WITH POSTAL MEMBERS

Dear Colleagues

ROYAL MAIL DISPUTE – INTERIM AGREEMENT

The Postal Executive, yesterday, unanimously endorsed the attached agreement. It is important that we now tell our members that the strength of their support for strike action has brought us to this position.

We should also tell our members that is was right to suspend strike action. We have always promised our members that we would not take unnecessary strike action.

We would like to thank all of our activists for your hard work and support during this difficult time. We would also like you to pass on our thanks to our members for their strength and solidarity during the ballot and the strikes.

The interim agreement clearly outlines how the full and final agreement will be shaped. It is also clear that Royal Mail have made significant concessions in the bitter long running local disputes. We must now use the strength of the agreement for local reps to re-engage and reach local agreements.

At national level it is essential we now focus our efforts on reaching a final agreement that delivers benefits to our members, customers and the company. This has always been and remains our primary objective.

In line with Royal Mail’s record of misinformation, the company tried last night to position the agreement purely around the achievement of a strike free Christmas. We want a strike free Christmas and a strike free New Year, but the agreement is explicit in recognising that this is dependant upon significant progress being made. The addition of an independent chair for the discussions means that the level of progress will be independently measured at fortnightly intervals to ensure both parties continue to work towards the final agreement. Nobody will be allowed to walk away from the agreement.

Royal Mail has also accepted that the national ballot and all local ballots remain enacted.

In recent weeks and days - even whilst negotiations were taking place at the highest level - Royal Mail continued to deliberately confuse the situation. Now the interim agreement will be backed up by an independent process, Royal Mail’s behaviour is no longer sustainable.

Additionally, the clear up arrangements, discipline and issues around people being taken off pay are dealt with in a stronger way than they have been historically. We know that trust cannot be rebuilt overnight but both parties have a responsibility to work towards it.

All members will receive a direct communication to their home addresses at the end of next week to explain all developments and how we intend to take all these issues forward. There will also be a National Briefing on Friday 13th November. Details for the briefing will follow.

Yours sincerely

Looks to me like 2007 agreement except the deal should be concluded by XMAS.
again more talk of local agreements ,as I predicted, but what happens when local agreement cannot be reached as in the case in my office.

What have we lost money for now and in 2007 ? I do not understand what we have acheived.

I am going to cancel my CWU payments,my local rep would have got a lot better deal.
seeing HIGSON on TV last night ,he said the pension deficit was the CWU fault and they have to dela with it,is this someone who has reached a agreement think not.

So pegus 2 is on its way shortly thanks to the CWU excuitive ,Billy Hayes gets a nice labour seat .in all his press statements and interveiws he was carefull with his words only ever critisising Mandeleson,Dave Ward gets to become head of CWU the rest of us get shafted twice, once by labour and CWU ,2 WHEN THE TORIES COME IN.
