That won't happen overnight as it's going to require all existing machines being replaced. Any new machines would have to be able to sequence flats and letters together as there isn't really the traffic to justify a dedicated flat only sequencing machineCelgar wrote:The letters & flats would all be sorted in sequence.

I did consider you meant if you work overtime. But that does not mean you are "technically" full time. In real terms you are doing a days overtime on top of your contracted hours.mickeymacca wrote:No, I meant if I worked a 5th day as overtime, I would get 7h 36 for it under the new arrangement (as a full time day will equate to) on top of my 31 hours 12 mins will mean I will earn a total of 38 hours 48 mins for a five day working week, when the guy on a regular full time contract is on 38 hours doing the same job and actually working (in real terms) the same hours as me as I am his P and L partner,
I'm boring myself now sorry......when we achieve a 35 hour working week I will be on 31.12mins for 4 days doing the same job as my P and L partner doing 5 days for 35! is this anomaly just restricted to my situation or does it affect others?
I think you originally assumed you would reduce 12 minutes each day, In line with your partner. But I see your point that if your partner reduces 12 minutes & you don't then your present way of working cannot continue. Perhaps the hour of your partner will be reduced all on one day?.(edit; your day off!) - Who knows - let them work it out.

Have I missed something regarding the pay "rise"?
5% backdated to October '17 (so effectively a pay freeze from April '17 to October '17)
No pay rise for 2018

No pay rise for 2018

it was a choice for the CWU: a much lower percentage pay rise, perhaps 2.5%, fully backdated, then a further 2.5% in April this year OR
5% kicking-in NOW and backdated to October 2017.

How do you feel about no pay rise for 2018? And unless my maths are off then 2.5% fully backdated to April then a further 2.5% this April is worth considerably more than 5% backdated to October and no pay rise this April.wandle wrote:Yes, you're missing something.Rumple wrote:Have I missed something regarding the pay "rise"?

The offer would have been 2.6% from April 2017 and 2% from April 2019.
The total sum for 5% over the 18 months is worth on basic pay and delivery supplement £1700.40 and
Where as the 2.6% over two years and the 2% for 2018/19 is worth £1643.72
So the 5% is better over 18 months

Correct me if I am wrong but you are getting a pay rise in April 2018 as the 5% increase runs from October 2017 until April 2019.Then you get 2% from April 2019 until April 2020 if I read it correctly.

yes, technically we are getting a pay rise in 2018 but that is 2017s pay rise (if you get my drift). It's 2 pay rises in 3 years, I wish council tax, insurance etc only went up 2 out of 3 years.dennis12 wrote:Correct me if I am wrong but you are getting a pay rise in April 2018 as the 5% increase runs from October 2017 until April 2019.Then you get 2% from April 2019 until April 2020 if I read it correctly.
Yep, just re-read it. It's a 3 year agreement with only 2 basic pay rises.
A shorter working week is welcome but does not increase take home pay.

It's a 7% pay rise over 3 years with the majority up front.
As dingo points out 5% is a tiny bit better than 2.6% and 2% but interestingly enough it's not as good as 2.5% and 2.5%.

Sorry I amended it to state 2.0% from April 2019.dennis12 wrote:Correct me if I am wrong but you are getting a pay rise in April 2018 as the 5% increase runs from October 2017 until April 2019.Then you get 2% from April 2019 until April 2020 if I read it correctly.

So in real terms against inflation it's a pay cut its only when the reduction in the working week kicks in that it becomes an above inflation wage rise which makes it an approx 3% above inflation pay rise by 2019?- IF inflation averages 3% each year over the 3 year period.fishtank wrote:It's a 7% pay rise over 3 years with the majority up front.

Some say inflation will fall, some that it will increase over the next couple of years. In November 2017 inflation on food was running at 3.6%.

A shorter working week is not a pay rise to a full time member of staff, that's the killer.
