What is the maximum legal load of the Mark 2 HCT? Label on HCT says maximum load 122kg.Is this the max load the HCT can withstand? The mark 1HCT was MAXIMUM 105kg on flat ground.As a 50kg person 122kg is à big increase. Has a risk assessmemt been carried out on a Mark 2 HTC?

For manual handling purposes the weight of a HCT is;
 Mk1: 37 kg unladen; approved to carry 68 kg of mail; max gross weight 105 kg
 Mk2: 47 kg unladen; approved to carry 75 kg of mail; max gross weight 122 kg - this
version also has a lockable drawer capable of carrying 8 kg and a bundle holder for the
working bundle (both of these form part of the 75 kg max)

Thanks for your reply. I assume a risk assessmemt needs to be done as this is a significant increase from 105kg?

A general risk assessment of the HCTs will have been done on their introduction into service. Also specifically a Risk Assessment should have been done when the HCTs were introduced to the Duty itself, and when they moved from one type to another.

The user also has a responsibility to make dynamic risk assessments when carrying out tasks associated with the duty, as should every postie on every duty anyway.

The OPG should fill to the capacity at which they feel they can comfortably and safely work, up to but not exceeding those maximums. (They are maximums, not targets).
