Post by woofwoof »

I re-use them and would suggest not dropping them as its a bane of contention for some. Stories in the papers:

Times: http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/u ... 716493.ece

Guardian: http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree ... 64,00.html They like them in this one.

A forum discussing it http://www.swimclub.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=9625

Thurrock council asking us to be careful http://www.thurrock.gov.uk/news/content ... ry&ID=1706

Another forum complaining about them http://kudocities.com/cities/london/con ... -the-floor

It seems middle England does not have enough to worry about.

A woman on a round I cover sent 2 elastic bands back in the post to us whilst making a complaint. Mind you, she has been known to come in for such reasons as "I found this torn off piece of a 'sorry you were out' card in the middle of the street and wondered if I had a parcel waiting", and then complain when there wasn't a parcel there for her.

Thing is with the pressure royal mail put you under to get the walk done in a certain amount of time, when you loose a band, like when it flies off the bundle you don't have time to search for it. Also we carry so many do the general public really believe we drop them on purpose.

Saying that I do pick them up if I see them, but on my round the kids are always asking for them, or collecting them if I drop them. :whistle

Had some old bloke turn up in Callers the other week with an envelope stuffed full of elastic bands, 'I picked these up on my way here to complain about the postie dropping bands'  and Friday a woman came in moaning about elastic bands and the environment, I told her they are bio-degradable thats one of the reasons they were changed.
So keep on moving, moving, moving your feet
Keep on shuf-shuf-shuffling to this ghost dance beat
Just keep on walking down never ending streets

Throw elastic bands on the floor? What kind of policy is that?

The most obvious place to but your bands is ontop of your next bundle. You can usually get it out without dropping them but it you don't always notice. Does the public have any idea what it is like trying to pick up a rubber band off the floor whislt carying 16Kg over your shoulder? If the bands are out in the open for more than 24hours they are useless anyway so there is no point in trying to re-use any you find.

I'm quite please the No.1 complaint to RM is about dropped elastic bands, if that is our biggets problem then we must be doing something right!
