How come you have so many sorting??? I thought that these new fangled super duper sorting machines did all the primary sorting (no, not in my DO either). We have the same problems at times but we have extra ips frames which we can use whenever needed but the packet frames can be a nightmare can be up to 10 around the packet frame.

You are lucky - there is so much space between our sorters due to people throwing out walks for part timers that we have to use mobile phones to talk to each otherharrybean wrote:can anyone help our dim puts everone on sorting but there's not enough frames or bag drop frames.at the moment its two to a frame on letters or four each side to a bag drop frame. is there anything in writting to help us to stop this,it must be against health&safety somewhere ? cheers

overcrowding on sorting frames
Some of you lot don't know how lucky you are
TWO SORTERS TO A FRAME!!!!!!! 2 sorters to an aisle would be a result in our office
We quite simply cannot do the job on certain days during the week. As you can imagine the sight of managers continually tipping trays of mail in front of you is gonna make you sort faster

Yes tipping trays always makes me go faster, faster to get a coffee, go to the toilet, go for a smoke etc.thekiddykid wrote:Some of you lot don't know how lucky you are![]()

There is a set of Royal Mail own safety guidelines regarding overcrowding at fittings, Its 1 person per frame with a seat to sit at. I had a simialar argument several years ago about overcrowding and was given a set of guidelines by my area H&S Rep. If I can dig them out and scan them I will post them on here. On a side note, under H&S
Regulation 10 of the Workplace Health, Safety, and Welfare Regulations requires every workroom to
have sufficient floor area, height, and unoccupied space to ensure health, safety, and welfare. The
associated Approved Code of Practice (ACOP) requires enough space for people to move freely and
with ease to workstations and within rooms, with each room (excluding meeting rooms, lecture halls,
and kiosks, etc.) having at least 11 cubic metres per person.
Note for the purposes of doing this calculation, ceiling height is only counted up to a maximum of 3
metres. Also note that 11 cubic metres is the bare minimum and may be insufficient depending on the
room layout and furniture, etc. within the room.
