That is the other option. But try telling em. People need to face up to reality. A longer wait for a state pension, or tackle the outgoings to balance the books. OR greatly increase tax, so the others don't change.

I don't see why the average worker ought to be penalised.
We could cap public sector pensions at £50k and make them ineligible for state pensions.
A £50k a year pension is more than generous and would save billions.

Because, they could do the same with healthcare. Have to pay the first £500 of medical bills. Then, due to inflation, let's make it £750, and so on.

A £50K pension is worth around £1 million and most public sector pensions are unfunded.
Personally I don't see why their pensions ought to be so generous and why we should have to pay for them.

That's irrelevant, what can't be paid won't be paid.
The welfare state and the public sector are unaffordable, things will carry on until it can't.

No, they won't do it voluntarily, probably the IMF will insist on strict measures as part of a bail out.

Nobody can force them to do that. A quick Google tells me the MPs are on a CARE scheme funded partly by the taxpayer. They are civil servants. They wont vote to slash their own schemes. If nothing changes, an increase in pension age will have to happen because they wont change the current set up. They know younger ones are not focussed on pensions, so will get the changes through.
