Pension help, i need to get out soon.

Post by Chelseablue »

Hi , im now looking to get out of royal mail after near 30 years. Recently strugglng with health issues , and worried it will lead to more absences meaning they will try and find a way of getting rid . Not enjoying the job like i did, some real awful changes recently and in the near future coming. No extra staff during xmas pressure and during the extreme weather we had recently, , has put a lot of pressure ( i know shdnt worry, do ure hours etc) on us. The joy has gone for myself. Is there an easy way of looking at your Pension and finding out what you have got, so i could make the decision to leave. It just looks so complicated,,,, for me anyway. Thanks.

You are best off asking on the pension forum, our pensions are complicated by being in 3 different schemes, if you take your pension early it will be reduced by 5% for every year early you take it.

He would be better off asking the pension providers to give him quotes.
If the climate was a bank, they would already have saved it.

You don't give your age. That would help.

You can take pension now but you'd lose a good chunk of it. You need your previous statements and read the pension section on here over and over again . It's not easy to understand but you'll find most answers eventually.

Ok thank you. Just saddened the way RM is going, cant even say its the way forward. Some of the decisions made in our office recently and before that beggars belief. Just going downhill quick , now affecting my mind and body so its maybe time.

If you're thinking or retiring then why are you worrying about RM trying to get rid of you, as it makes no difference to your pension entitlement if you leave voluntary now or are forced to leave in the future?

Can’t you look for a less stressful part-time job like driving for Asda or picking up litter in McDonalds car park etc until you are 60?

A guy I used to work with was in a similar situation and did the same thing driving for a local fruit&veg shop and he was in his late 50’s.

Maybe a bad bit of advice but could you not just go off sick with your health issues and play it out until the give you ihr.
Would also give you time to sort out the pension plus you would still be paying into your pension scheme.
The time has come to stop turning the other cheek, time to stop shaking our heads in bitter dismay, time to stop mumbling our angry words.
The time has come for union.

Unlikely he will get a payoff. RM are playing hardball. I've known at least 2 people who just went in the end, because RM wont pay out. That's why I'm piling money in to various things, to pay myself off.

Not as easy as it was a few years ago . I applied for a dozen " cushy jobs " and got nowhere. No surprise there looking at this government.
