JOINT STATEMENT BETWEEN ROYAL MAIL AND THE CWU COVERING THE DEPLOYMENT OF INCLINE CONVEYORS AND SORTING FRAMES FOR PROCESSING SPECIAL DELIVERY ITEMS IN THE MAIL CENTRE & RDC NETWORK

Dear Colleagues

Branches and representatives are informed that trial activity has been taking place for some considerable time in relation to a Terms of Reference between Royal Mail and the CWU Covering the Trial of New Working Methods in the Special Delivery Locker at Mount Pleasant Mail Centre.

Originally the activity was in relation to a bespoke solution for Mount Pleasant due to the number of SD items that were being processed. The review of the activity has now concluded and it has been agreed that the solution that has been identified would be suitable for use in the Mail Centre and RDC networks, where sufficient space exists. Discussions have therefore taken place with the business in relation to concluding a Joint Statement to allow for the solution to be deployed which has been endorsed by the Postal Executive, a copy is attached for your information.

Given space constraints it is not anticipated that this will become a generic deployment option and opportunities will be limited to a small number of sites, the department understands that there are no immediate plans by the business to deploy the solution beyond Mount Pleasant at present.

Branches will note that in line with previous agreements the Joint Statement provides for continued full CWU involvement in any deployment activity.

Any enquiries in relation to this LTB should be addressed to Davie Robertson, Assistant Secretary, email: dwyatt@cwu.org or shayman@cwu.org quoting reference number: 715.13
