Yorkshire Distribution Centre has won Bronze in its latest audit. Gill Federov, Plant Manager at the time of the audit, explains why the award means so much to the team: “It’s a fantastic sense of achievement. Everyone is really happy and there is a buzz about the place! Our Logistics team was given high praise …’best Logistics activity board in the Business’ quoted one of the assessors.”
To win Bronze the team had to demonstrate continuous improvement as part of business as usual, with activities making a positive contribution to the scorecard. For YDC this meant working hard to embed a safe culture and achieving quality of service targets. The results of the team’s hard work over four years are impressive: 748 days without a lost time accident, best in class efficiency measures and improved overall engagement index by 30% years on year. YDC is also the greenest plan in terms of its impact on the environment.
Both Gill and Arfan Ahmed, People Development Lead for the region, attribute success at YDC to the people who work there. On the day of the audit they had operators and managers present, with a team of frontline people demonstrating how the MTS area is used to address daily processing challenges. Gill adds: “One hundred percent of the team have been involved in making improvements or working in new ways as part of our continuous improvement journey.”
Well done YDC – next up the Silver challenge?

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
