Does anybody know who will be getting the new packet sorting machines.
I realise there will be a trial and it depends on the size of your office but is there a plan already in place for which mail centre will be getting them?

Probably one of the larger MCs or one of the recent new builds. Until we know the manufacturer and model number/name it's just guessing atm.

JMC is earmarked for one next year they reckon they could rip out 100 jobs. Preference exercises are going on Processing. Anyone know whether they can do the job?

According to Royal Mail, packets (parcels!) are the future so the future of any mail centres without room for a new packet sorting machine can't be too good.

perhaps the machines will be spread out amongst the locations that have lost so much work? is not the reason for being for a trade union to protect the vulnerable? perhaps not. as long as the super mail centres get bucket loads of s/a the rest of us can go to hell in a hand cart.

RM see the future in parcel delivery and will obviously invest (at some point) in that process.Clearly sitting in your front room ordering stuff on your tablet/PC/mobile for delivery is the future, unlike physically sending a bit of paper from one end of the country to the other, which is all but dead.
How many existing (even modern) MCs will be adaptable to parcel sorters is anyone's guess, but with the necessary additions of ramps, chutes and conveyors to the machines, space will be at a premium.

How can "physically sending a bit of paper from one end of the country to the other" be "all but dead" when I'm still delivering "a bit of paper" to nearly every house every working day ?

Err, as a concept? Clearly it's day is all but done, and whether you still deliver those bits of paper or not is irrelevant. It has no long-term future.
You've possibly heard of emails, faxes, downloads or even the telephone?

Given that there were 60 odd MCs and there are now 30 something(?) it would be strange if an MC wasn't experiencing higher levels of traffic.

Very true I reckon that in 2016 there will be another reshuffle of Postcodes mainly due to Gatwick and Croydon possibly merging, Greenford mayb relocating due to HS2. Things change and I'm sure that in the rest of the country some offices are taking in more work and may have to to relocated to a bigger office like Portsmouth and Southampton. Is Romford big enough for East London?
