MY FIRST JOB LASTED 3DAYS THEN I RESIGNED...IT WAS A TORTURE WITHOUT TRAINING SENT OUT IN MY OWN VEHICLE WITH A BUNCH OF 110 KG LETTERS AND PARCEL, MANAGERS ARE RUDE, JUST SIT AND EAT KFC ALL DAY...TELL ME HOW I COULD GET AN INDOORS JOB LIKE SORTER BECAUSE I HAVE BEEN ADDED TO THE WAITING LIST..THANKS!

Sorry mate but 110kg was an average load around 5 years ago - my record was 12 bags - 1st was 16kg and the rest 11kg each and I was over 45 at the time.

Its not a job everyone can do, but one that everyone thinks is easy until they do it.

Thats one reason this forum exists.

As a newcomer, join the union.
You should have had 3 days training a a new walk, the first day sorting and getting to know the frame.
2 days delivery with a trainer, O/T is claimed under training.

Take advice from other posties, managers will screw you to boost their figures at the cheapest rate.
NEVER use your car, RM should provide all necessary transport.
Agree O/T prior to delivery, Book all O/T - don't work for free & take all breaks.
Don't overload yourself and take your time - accuracy before speed!
It can take several weeks to get up to speed.

Before 2007 it was a great job, since then it has become a grinding ball-ache, I doubt any new starter now will still be in the job in a few years time.

Yes I remember it well, being sent out on a job i've never been shown before, I felt like crying and I still do sometimes when I keep getting put on jobs I haven't done before and not getting back until gone on most days. Saying that I do love the job though.

Approx' 10 years ago (when the job was much easier than it is now), we had a new starter, he was in the Army for a long time, 10 years at least,
he went through all the necessary training, was trained on his walk, and then left to do it on his own,
he lasted 3 days !

a year or 2 back, there was a documentary about posties where a Royal marine fitness instructor delivered leaflets to a postmans round, every door but remember no packets, signers, and if he was delivering letters he would have had a much heavier load,
to say he was f***ed at the end is an understatement, he was asked if he could do it every day, in all weathers, his response was short and swift.... "NO" !!

I'm not a postie anymore, been working CSS machines for the past 3 years, if it's one thing i've noticed, my fitness has gone downhill big time.
