Glasgow Mail Centre

Post by ragin_balls »

Im new to this chat room but ive been working for royal fail for years now. What is the deal with other mail centers? is it just mine where everbody in charge is related?
Somebody said it was because its hard to have a life outside of work but how can you have whole families that are managers?

is it like this in all mail centers?

Another thing aswell! how is it that I cant get overtime or a better duty but people with less seniority can get made up to full time?
im no gonna mention any names but the same faces seem to be in all the time? i bet none of them will be on any picket line either.

all i want is the chance to apply for a new duty without learning about kiazens and drawing wallpaper, its pure unadulterated shite.

overtime is done in how many hours you have done ie if you have nil hours you should be allocated ot if you are senior to anyone else on list for ot unless its something you are not trained to work on.

Where i work the writing clerk comes round with OT but sometimes you can only get 2 shift a week and you have to come in first thing when your shift doesnt start till well after the OT. but i know that people are in every day just before the start of their shift???!!? how is that fair?? And yes Im in the union but they say that there is nothing they can do.

your lucky to get 2 shifts a week unfortunately ot is only booked at a time when your shift managers needs it so not much you can do sometimes we cant ot on early shift but its all booked on late shift it just depends on workload.

I can think of eleven managers at Bristol Mail Centre who are related to another manager. Then there are postmen/women who are related to a manager, I can think of nine.

What is the problem at GMC?..

Full Timers always given priority on overtime? Sometimes as much as 4 shifts & LFT get none?

LTF'S getting discrimanted off union!!!!!!

Yeah, nepotism is rife in Royal Mail, I remember slagging off a manager once and the female OPG I was talking to said " that's my husband your talking about"

Nepotism is a tactic they use to break union solidarity.

Managers and favourites get their families in through the back door, normally as casuals who get made up. These family members also receive favouritism. Management and their favourites then have the numbers to control the unit, using violence if needed.

No unit should be allowed to do its own recruitment, especially casuals.

Bollocks to that answer. Some people are getting mixed up with pressure OT and scheduled OT. Pressure OT is given out as equal as possible under the current way. It might not be fair, but ir does not discriminate between LTFT and FT. I know LTFT staff that get OT before me in GMC. Schedule OT is another matter. Everyone could apply when it was up for grabs.

And thats nepotism why !!! Was the manager a postman at the same time as his wife ? Did she apply for a job while he was a manager ? You have to laugh at some of the statements on here.

When making a statement, please give details to back it up or risk looking stupid.

Also recognizing when someone is taking the mickey out of themselves rather than making any particular point would help reduce the risk you identify even further.
