Any updates on POMC?

Anyone have any more news on POMC?

I know RM are pushing ahead with the 90 day consultation,but i understand the union has refused to take part in the talks,be it nationally or at local level...

SOMC are meant to be taking IOW collection mail on a saturday from this April,but this is not happening yet afaik.

Long story short,RM are looking at 3 options.

1.POMC stays as it is. (least likely IMO as why start the review in the first place?Also the building is unfit for purpose).

2.SOMC to take ALL PO outward and INWARD mail for sorting.(Lack of space is already a problem at SOMC).

3.RM to build/relocate to a new MC in the SW Central region.(Is this likely with privatisation around the corner?).

Which of these 3 options they pick are anyone's guess...

As a footnote,the CWU are still refusing to meet with RM on the issue of the review at Area and Div level,which i find odd.
If you worked at POMC surely you would want the union to be involved in the review process?

Could they also be thinking of having a MC also at that site earmarked for Parcel Force Depot?

The last worktime learning session we had stated all those options plus the mcm mentioned inward processing staying put, he admitted that they are still a long way short of making a decision and would like union involvement from both cwu and unite, yes it would be a lot better if the union was involved but they have been instructed nationally not to enter negotiations due to the cwu nationally wanting rm to put a halt to mc closures until talks have been held, all in all not a very satisfactory situation, but then us, Soton and Bournemouth have been run as one mc on paper for a long time with Soton being in the middle (probably) seen as the major player, they have taken our 2c and tracks and it wouldn't surprise me if they decide to put Pompey into the mc at Eastleigh then realise its not big enough and review SOMC next, leading possibly to the building of a new mc for both offices

Best he waits until after privatisation. Word is there's going to be the first of the next generation of super-MCs built to cover PO/SO/SP/BH postcodes and fully automation equipped for parcels and mail in a few years. Rumour is it'll be on the Transit factory site, but that'll likely change in the mean-time.

this is exactly the same that has been proposed at Ipswich mc.[replace soton for Chelmsford] we all know what rms preferred option will be, don't we?

Rumours/facts I've heard are (make up your own mind which are which):

1. POMC won't stay exactly as it is now if it stays open. It will be a delivery office and INWARD mail centre. It will still service the rural offices/local customers and so will still have 600s (7.5 tonne vehicles) based there. There will be some processing done of the last of the IOW mail too.

2. SOMC doesn't have the capacity to do this - bullshiting from management.

3. There is no money left for new mail centres.

As for the CWU, our local reps are following instructions from above because RM management continue to break national agreements.

I think so. Remember at the moment Slindon Street is worthless (look at the return packet centre) and the Northern Quarter stuff is miles into the future, so the council wont be buying POMC anytime soon to knock it down for a new bus station etc.

Latest news is that there will be an announcement within the next two weeks, one would assume this to be royal mails preferred option and not the final word on the subject
