As most should know by now that the official strike by Romec is due to happen from this 5am Friday until 5am Saturday. A member of staff at our Mail Centre (who works a nightshift) asked what would happen if the nightshift rufused to cross a picket line on friday night. We got the response back this afternoon - Anybody who stays out will not only lose their pay for the friday, but because they are not due to return to work until Wednesday night 26th Dec, they will also NOT BE PAID for Monday or tuesday! In other words you will lose 3 days pay NOT 1.
The local union had to contact London, who in turn contacted the Lawyers for advice, and this is what has come back. So please be aware what could happen. I can tell you guys that the feeling on the floor when they heard this was that no way were they willing to lose 3 days pay over xmas - especially when it did not affect them at all, and also that any unoffical action would also put their jobs on the line. Now, historically that has not been an issue, but because the vast majority are saying they will be coming in, that will leave the minority in a very dangerous position!

That's better, our iLSM spends most of the night being "serviced" by engineers what with all the DVD's and crap we shove through it every night!!!
And after a while, you can work on points for style,
Like the club tie, and the firm handshake,
A certain look in the eye and an easy smile.
You have to be trusted by the people that you lie to,
So that when they turn their backs on you,
You'll get the chance to put the knife in.

Its the romec engineers that fix buildings and postboxes etc, not the maintenance engineers in Mail Centres that fix the machines. And yes quite a bit of difference between the 2......
