Shift Patterns

Hi

Wondered if I could get some thoughts on this.

I'm starting on a 3 month temp contract at a mail centre as a mail sorter. I've been told my initial shift would be 6pm-10pm, obviously i'll know on Monday but i'm just interested to know if that shift is the largest one in a mail centre or if I should expect over night shifts and early morning shifts as well.

I'm pretty flexible but i'm hoping its gonna be 6pm-10pm

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

Casuals tend to go wherever thy are needed most,depending on annual leave and forecasted workload for all 3 shifts.
At our place casuals can be on earlies one week,nights the next,etc,so be prepared for that,good luck!

Thanks for the reply as well. That was the impression I got at the interview but have heard a few contradicting comments from different people.

Is the early shift set hours? 5-9AM or does it vary?

Earlies 6am-2pm
Lates 130pm-930pm
Nights 10pm-6am
This is just at my MC however,times may vary slightly in different locations,and are for F/T hours.
same as it ever was...

I always thought my shifts would be all over the place, its just nice to know what that might look like.

I know a part timer on 24 hours who works 06.00-14.00 Tue-Wed -Thurs :roll:

Just to update my own post now that i've been in the job a few weeks.

The shift patterns are absolutely all over the place. This week for example I did afternoons on Monday, nights yesterday and will do 4 hours on Saturday.

I'm ok with it, its pretty much what I expected. I hoped they'd be a pattern to it but they did mention at the interview that it would be like this.
