The last three CSS (Compact Sequence Sorter) machines to be installed in 2011 are now operating at Truro mail centre.
It brings the total CSS machines delivered nationally to 570 and completes a successful year for our walk sequencing programme, which aims to automate and modernise the way we work.
The south-west, which now has 51 machines, can be added to the list of regions where all CSS machines are in place.
Training
The national walk sequencing team organised some advanced training for Truro operators on the CSS machines at Plymouth mail centre.
This has enabled Truro to begin using the machines to support their busy Christmas operations.
More training will take place in January.
Tracey Tavender, walk sequencing deployment lead, says: ‘I’m sure that delivery staff from Truro and the surrounding delivery offices will recognise how much easier and quicker the prepping task is, even at our busiest time of year, now they are receiving sequenced mail.’
CSS machine operator Greg Dunn agrees.
‘These machines are not just good for Truro mail centre but for the business as a whole,’ he says.
‘I’ve enjoyed the training and am pleased we have the opportunity to use them during the busy Christmas period.’

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
