Bristol, Glasgow and Leeds mail centres are celebrating brilliant bronze awards in their World Class Mail (WCM) audits.
The three sites each gained the 50 points needed for bronze in audits of their performance.
It was a particular success for Leeds, which started the WCM programme several months later than many other sites going for bronze.
Working together
Rob Davies, WCM champion at Leeds, says: ‘WCM is something for everyone to aim for and work together on. Everyone supports each other.’
Bristol WCM champion Shane Morcom says: ‘This has been an amazing journey to take and it’s a fantastic feeling to unlock the hidden talents our people possess.
‘WCM is a great way to bring people with different skills together to achieve results that benefit our customers and the business, while making the workplace better and safer too.’
Continuous improvement
At Glasgow, WCM champion Ross Anderson says: ‘This is the culmination of two-and-a-half years of hard work.
‘After each audit we’ve had, we’ve taken the feedback on board and continuously improved.
‘We’ve always focused on progression, rather than perfection.
‘We’ve encouraged people to challenge themselves and each other, and their response has been excellent.
‘Everyone has shown a real passion for learning new things.
‘I am still buzzing after the result!’

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

It's like the "you've been a special person today" sticker your kid comes home from school with.
Utterly and completely meaningless.

Is the whole thing not just a self congratulatory pat on the back, if the ordinary posties are taking the piss out of the whole thing then it's really not worth it, still, I suppose someone is making something out of it

Do you think he'd been on the glue?

The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Shouldn't that read:
Bristol WCM champion Shane Morcom, after watching and digesting the comments of performers and judges on TV show Britain's Got Talent, says:
‘This has been an amazing journey to take' and 'it’s a fantastic feeling to unlock the hidden talents our people possess'.

Re: Bronze bonanza:WCM Bristol, Glasgow and Leeds
Whats this everyones involved stuff. The six year journey will include the same twenty people. Many of the rest have no idea what wcm is, so are suprised to be thanked for their efforts gaining an award. Benefits and improvements from wcm are so small they are not worth the time and money spent. Usually you just end up with another way of doing the job, the end result being the same. Unfortunately there's a little niggle though with a bit more lifting, pushing, twisting, or stretching involved. Funny that some ideas end up with more people than previously to carry out the job or end up raising costs through damage to machines. PS after two years in development new pins for Bristol MC etow system are to be withdrawn. At a cost of £1000 each and 200 delivered they do not work.

Re: Bronze bonanza:WCM Bristol, Glasgow and Leeds
I wasnt looking for anything in particular but while clicking through the pages on the interweb last night this gem came up and I thought it sounded kinda familiar:
The Dakota Indians of North America passed on this piece of wisdom down through the generations by word of mouth -
"If you are riding a dead horse the best thing to do is dismount".
However in the corporate world because of the heavy investment factor, other things to be tried, (but not limited to) are the following:
Buy a stronger whip
Change riders
Threaten the horse with termination
Appoint a committee to study the horse
Arrange to visit other sites to see how they ride dead horses
Lower the standards so dead horses can be included
Appoint an intervention team to reanimate the horse
Create a training session to increase the riders load share
Reclassify the horse as `living impaired'
Change the form so it reads "This horse is not dead"
Hire outside contractors to ride the dead horse
Harness several dead horses together for increased speed and efficiency
Provide additional funding to increase the dead horse's performance
Do a time management study to see if lighter riders would improve productivity
Purchase an after market product that makes dead horses run faster
Declare the dead horse has low overheads and is therefore cost effective
Form a quality focus group to find profitable uses for dead horses
Rewrite the performance requirements for dead horses
....and finally if all else fails.....promote the dead horse to management.
