WORLD CLASS MAIL £75 a head.

Post by teesdale »

Bristol Mail Centre gained its world class mail bronze award on 7th November 2011. One half of the building was completely cleaned by managers who came in the previous day. All equipment for doing the job was removed and no one was allowed to walk into the area so that the entourage of 70 people could inspect the sterile environment and look at lots of posters. The Japanese professor was ill and didnt turn up so Mark Higson had to assess his own mail centre with people from the Fiat car company. The sterile area they inspected looked nothing like the area when people are working in it. The rest of the building where the mail was being processed was completely avoided. Apparently they will move straight on to the silver award. Everyone who was involved in wcm, managers and hand picked postmen, who have worked on this for two years went out for a meal together. Twenty people attended a dinner at Thornbury Castle, near Bristol, in celebration of their achievement. Royal Mail paid £75 a head for the banquet in the regal surroundings. The next day they were all given an extra days annual leave as well. Dinner £1500, day off £2200.

"Q 61 Mr Davey: Moya, I want to bring out something that you have touched on once or twice with regard to your comments on the world class mail project and how significant that is. Could you say a little bit more about that and how it may relate to the employee share proposition that is in the Bill?

I, with Mark Higson and his team, have been impressed with how every single Royal Mail employee whom I have met for this project has been inspired and involved by it, and, in many ways, they are enjoying their work more than they have ever done before. I am passionate about the Bill and the employee shares, and I want to try to take some of that passion and give some of the benefits of success back to the employees. Could you say a little more about the how the world class mail project is affecting the working lives of individual employees?

The Chair: Moya, you have less than one minute to answer that.

Moya Greene: It is changing everything. It is helping employees bring skills and talents that they have amassed in other areas to their jobs, which, in the main, can be repetitive and pretty boring. It is helping them to figure out what needs to be fixed, to not wait for somebody else to come and fix it, and to structure the projects themselves that will fix what needs to be fixed. It is in place now in 10 of our facilities. It has been a huge tool to help our people come to an understanding of what they need to do to be successful in all aspects of handling and processing of mail. It has had a huge impact on safety, and it has reduced costs inside individual facilities.

The Chair: Order. We have run out of time, and I must draw the evidence session to a close. I thank our witnesses for coming this morning."

Public Bill Committee, Tuesday 9 November 2010.

It seems that World Class mail sites are being used to showcase how well transformation is going to the outside world, in particular potential buyers.

The CWU argues that, as the modernisation plan has been agreed and implemented, the only argument management can put forward in favour of privatisation is that the company will get quicker access to capital. The Union put forward the alternative of issuing Government Bonds to raise capital. I don't know if this would have given RM as quick an access to capital as private companies have. However, the Bill has gone through now and management need to persuade someone to buy Royal Mail.

A slap up meal and a day off to recover is peanuts to RM if these "managers and hand picked postmen" achieve the 'sale of the century'.

At GMC two workplace coaches spent two nights (full shifts) drawing small pictures
and diagrams that they pinned up in the Mech area where nobody (except the WCM brown nosers)
bother to look at them. One of these arse's has the nerve/cheek to say
"It's been a long week". Now there have been times when i've have thought
HITLER had one or two not bad ideas......this was one of those times :mad :mad

The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.
