Does anybody know when christmas casual staff usually start?

Can anyone confirm when doing a 2-10 shift what breaks are christmas casuals allowed and are they paid breaks?

Also does anybody know what the hourly rate is for christmas casual staff at the weekends?

breaks you dont get paid, you may be entitled to some holiday pay at the end of the contract.

Xmas casuals in my MC are usually started from around the first week of December, probably from 5 December this year. But they are not all started on that date but more are brought in each day from then.
I don't know what breaks they get, but I believe they get one 30 minute break around 1700, and then another 20 or 30 minute break around 2000. Not sure about that though, and I don't know whether they are paid - I thought they were.
Xmas casuals are paid the same hourly rate for weekends as during the week.

Oh come on, be fair. At least we get paid for our contracted hours, and even for overtime if we're lucky. That's one advantage to working here.

Casuals are treated particularly badly in RM. If I were you I'd look for an Xmas job elsewhere - most big employers especially retailers will be taking on extra staff over Xmas, and you will probably be treated better.

The xmas casuals in the Motherwell area are starting at the end of October.

What should I expect from a typical nightshift? Motherwell in particular, if anyone has any info...

As it is casual work, is it really as strict and regimented as the guidelines make out? Or is it more a case of "as long as the work gets done. everything is OK"?

My old job was casual work, and if I couldn't attend some shifts due to other commitments they would just get someone to cover me. What's the policy like with RM? I think I read something like you can have one authorised absence a month, is that true?

Finally, are they gonna pull any stunts to try and make me work on Xmas day or similar?

I assume by your comment, that you've had that problem in the past. But that doesn't mean that all, or quite frankly, more than a tiny minority are thieves.

True... 95% of the people we have in are good, honest workers...

It's the others who let the side down - getting caught with a bagful of CD's & DVD's and then go bleating to the papers about being "victimized"....

Judging by the number of stories in the "News" forum over the past year of posties being
found guilty of stealing from the mail perhaps we should look closer to home before we
start on the Christmas casuals.
