Re: portsmouth mail centre
They'll probably close Portsmouth MC down either splitting PO stuff between Dorset and Southampton or Southampton will take all of PO and Dorset will take all the SP and some (probably the Western end) of the SO area.svine1 wrote:can anyone shed any light on the happening of this mail centre, as soon there will be more managers than staff if they keep cutting opg grades and making up acting managers its a complete joke.

Re: portsmouth mail centre
Apparently safe for the next 2 years but to be reviewed 2013 in light of 'continued drop in mail volumes' London is the only place losing mail centres in next 2 years in the south

Re: portsmouth mail centre
Thats a possibility. Southampton has WCM and Dorset has iLSMs. While mech can be moved, iLSMs are only going to what appear to be MCs which are going to stay open after the reviews, Could be that Southampton will get all of PO and SP will go into Dorset. Or the other possibility is a new MC near the M27 taking the existing 3 MCs.
The plan is to go down to around 32 MCs so I think other areas will announce reviews in the next few months. The only area I see that hasn't had a review so far and probably won't is Scotland as the 4 MCs there all look safe. Can't see Portsmouth remaining open for much longer and if it goes into Southampton it could be done in 6-12 months.

Re: portsmouth mail centre
SO MC currently take all PO 2c except streamline, which is meant to be coming there soon,BUT space is a major problem at SO MC,so the more likely option is a new MC somewhere on the M27/M3 corridor in the next few years...
same as it ever was...

Re: portsmouth mail centre
The statement made on Monday said that of the 64 MCs open in 2010 this was likely to reduce to around half by 2016 or sooner. If Southampton/Dorset/Portsmouth and Truro/Plymouth/Exeter go into 1 MC each I can get exactly 32. But both these clusters could well have 2 MCs each.
If Southampton is cramped and took PO and SP went into Dorset, is there enough space for that?

Re: portsmouth mail centre
No chance,PO has about the same amount of traffic as SO postcode area. The SP area, although quite spread out in geographic terms,is mainly rural,so not much traffic-certainly a lot less than the PO code area, which also cover the IoW!They would have to relocate i'd have thought....dodger162 wrote:The statement made on Monday said that of the 64 MCs open in 2010 this was likely to reduce to around half by 2016 or sooner. Re: portsmouth mail centre
apparently they want to cut the number of mail centres by half in the next five yearshubbahubba wrote:SO MC currently take all PO 2c except streamline, which is meant to be coming there soon,BUT space is a major problem at SO MC,so the more likely option is a new MC somewhere on the M27/M3 corridor in the next few years...

Re: portsmouth mail centre
I did read a reply that mentioned Dorset and Southampton remaining open but either it was in another forum or has been deleted.
What about the other clusters in SW/SW?
Bristol assume no change.
Swansea/Cardiff. Swansea into Cardiff?
Truro/Plymouth/Exeter. Exeter is having iLSMs installed now so must be safe. Truro into Plymouth?
