What do they use to work out mileage

Post by swoosta »

What do they use to work out mileage for the allowance when changing office? do they just look at a map or use some programme?

When I last had to claim it, they used a program called Autoroute, to calculate the shortest route. And then checked it against what we claimed we'd be doing. If it didn't match our figures, they gave us the directions from Autoroute, and that was it. So what was the point in asking us to work it out for ourselves?!? :arrrghhh

When we moved last year they used the route planner on the RAC website using the shortest route option

They will have the accurate mileages from one office to another already as its been used for years for working out OMV travelling times, that will be the maximum you can claim and if you live closer then that is what you will get.

Those figures wouldn't be of any use. Because the amount you get, is based on the difference between the distance from your Home, to your old office, and from your Home to the new one. It makes no difference what the distance between the offices is.

For example: if someone lives somewhere between the two offices, and has to drive 5 miles east to get to the old one. And 10 miles west, to get to the new one. They get 5 miles worth of money. I know that's a gross oversimplification. But that's basically how it works.
