Nephew's Question

My Nephew has asked me a question for his school work and thought this would be the ideal place to ask.

What is the process when mail is collected from a post box / post office.

i'm looking for the entire journey including processes in mail centre etc

Also he has asked why RM still sell 2nd class stamps, even though i said delivery time, he then turned to me and asked, so do they just sit in a mail centre for a few days before sorting??

Royal Mail will always say that 2nd class mail is not deliberately delayed, but the introducion of two classes in 1969 was so that, with time and capacity restraints, more urgent mail could be prioritised. Now though only about 10% of mail has stamps ( 1st or 2nd ) on it, bulk mailing being of three classes ( 1, 2, m ) and much of it Down Stream Acess ( S ) and don't forget to remind your nephew "Work hard at school and you won't end up as a postman"

i never use 1st class stamps(except the free xmas ones )as the whole service is 2nd class anyway.
