sorry I misread the question, not sure what the amount is for the extra traveling due to MTSF reasons. I think it has been changed now with the new agreement and the amount changes 3 times over the maximum qualifying period. Someone will have the link up soon I am sure.

Is this it? Page 11 of the agreement.Although it does not mention pence per mile.

Excess Travel and Relocation from 1 April 2010 until 31 March 2013

The ETE and relocation changes referred to below will solely apply to Royal Mail Letters. These arrangements will come into effect on 1 April 2010 when the changes to the compensation terms above are implemented. They will apply to redeployment exercises during the period of the agreement. Existing MTSF terms will apply thereafter.
In order to facilitate redeployment during the transformation period, the terms of Appendix 7 of MTSF (Excess Travel Expenses policy) will be enhanced for those whose additional cost of travel exceeds £1250 pa. For those whose annual travel costs are less that £1250 per annum the current arrangements are unchanged.
Reimbursement for those whose annual travel costs exceed £1250pa will be tapered so that in the first three years, employees will be able to claim TWICE the difference between the cost of the journey from their home to their old location and from their home to the new location (“Excess Cost”) for a period of three years from the date of their transfer followed by a year where employees can claim a multiplier of 1.0 with the fifth year receiving a multiplier of 0.5. The multiplier and tapering would be as follows:
Year
1x 2.0
2x 2.0
3x 2.0
4x 1.0
5x 0.5

The total amount reimbursed over the five year period would be subject to a £20,000 limit.

ETE to be paid weekly or monthly in future depending on the employee’s pay cycle. As currently an employee entitled to receive an ETE payment can request that this sum is paid as a single up front lump sum payment (which will still be subject to NI and taxation deductions). Such advance payment will be discounted by 12.5%. However, for those people who will now receive payments over five years, only the first three years of recompense can be paid as the lump-sum. Years 4 & 5 will be paid weekly or monthly.

Relocation terms to be available and based on the 2002 Service Delivery Code of Practice but capped at the average ETE for that unit.
Review
Royal Mail and CWU will jointly review these elements of the agreement (VR and ETE) in October 2012 in the light of the financial position of the company and the progress of the transformation programme.

Along a similar line,my question is................it looks to be certain that my mail center is going to shut and i guess if given the option i'll follow the work.I live nearer to the new suggested mail center(Hemel)than i do to my existing mail center,so i guess i'll receive nothing in payments and just be grateful for a job :Very Happy

Not right I'm afraid.

The rate used to calulate ETE is the "lower standard vehicle mileage rate", which as far as I know is currently 25p /mile.

When did it change? :confused
It was based on the type of transport you were using, when I last had to move (about 10 years ago). There was so much for a Petrol car, so much for a Diesel car, so much for a motorbike, etc..

I don't know what the current figures are, as it's a while since I last had to move. But surely it's still divided into transport types. I mean, it's unfair to give the same amount to a Petrol car driver, as a Diesel car driver for example. Because there's a big difference in the cost of the fuel (nearly double the MPG!).

It hasn't changed.

There are two different ways to claim travel money:

1 - Excess Travel Expenses (ETE) - this is used for a permanent move and is the one that's payable for three years and is based on 25p mile, (but the final figure is doubled to allow for tax & NI). It's all in the MTSF agreement.

2 -Travel & Subsistence (T&S) - This is the one you refer to and is used for occasional travel claims, i.e. working at another office, or a meeting at another office. This is usually based on the higher rate, 40p (petrol) for the first 5000 miles per year, then it reverts to the lower one. There are also different rates for those with business vehicles, bikes etc. It is also used to claim for day and overnight subsitence, e.g. meals/hotels etc.

So how much would you get if you had to travel 24 miles to a mail centre - 24 miles back to home?

It depends on what extra miles you actually incur.

For example if you currently live 10 miles away from your workplace and you are transferred to another which is 24 miles away from home - you would only claim for 14 miles - as this is the excess mileage, not the full 24.

Have a look at the MTSF agreement.

I know of people who were already in the process of moving to the location of their existing MC, which is now due for closure. What I want to know is when they calculate the definite ETE figures you recieve, would it be based on where you live at the exact time of transfer, or would you need to have been living in the location for a minimum period before the date of transfer for the ETE to be based on that home address?
