MAILCENTRE CULLS BEGIN!

Post by hubbahubba »

It seems the wholesale cull of mailcentres is upon us,maybe one of the mods could compact all the threads posted in this section today into 1 section so all us "lucky" MC staff know where to look for the latest info on closures/mergers? :hmmmm
same as it ever was...

Seconded. Mods can we have a single stickied post posting mail centre closes and mergers in two groups, one group for mergers and closures which have been officially confirmed and one group for ones which are rumoured or un-officially confirmed?

With all these mail centres closing, surely there has to be redundancys. After all not everyone can travel to the new places, plus with the new technology, there should'nt be the need for to many workers, including managers!! So would we now be looking at compulsory redundancies?

Also how is this cull going to affect other parts of the business i.e network, deliveries? Thinking about it looks like were in the mire.

Did CWU know about all this before accepting the new deal?

We were told today no compulsory redundancies and the cull was part of the agreement. I guess the YES voters missed that bit!
So keep on moving, moving, moving your feet
Keep on shuf-shuf-shuffling to this ghost dance beat
Just keep on walking down never ending streets

They probably did, but decided to keep quiet!!! :)
And after a while, you can work on points for style,
Like the club tie, and the firm handshake,
A certain look in the eye and an easy smile.

You have to be trusted by the people that you lie to,
So that when they turn their backs on you,
You'll get the chance to put the knife in.

Did CWU know about all this......
MC closures were always going to happen deal or no deal it wouldn't of stopped it.
What the CWU have got apparently is better terms for relocation ect

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

I agree to that, but take it from personal experience, travelling large distances to work everyday soon takes its toll. I transferred to the NDC at Crick, when my RDC closed back in 2003. Journey time from my house to work was about 40 minutes does'nt sound that bad but after along day and if you wish to work overtime then a 40 minute drive home it soon took its toll on my car and my family time and fuel costs!! Thankfully I saw the light and manged to transfer to my local mailcentre/voc so now I can cycle to work in about 15 minutes and if i drive it takes less than 10 plus when picking duty hours and applying for ot, I can be more flexible.

Its a shame RM don't think like that!!

We got better terms for relocation. But what we didn't get, was any real protection from excessive traveling times, practicality, etc.. As others have pointed out. There are some who're already stuck with excessive comutes, which are only the tip of the iceberg.

From RM's point of view, it's great. Because people will leave, rather than put up with this. Particularly the ones who can't get to and from work on Public Transport, because of their shifts. And yet, there's still so many, who actually believe that we'd have been stupid enough to vote for this crap deal! :arrrghhh :arrrghhh

Oh, there's talk of the CWU being involved in this. But there's nothing concrete. Who really believes that it'll be much more than lip service? :hmmmm

Not yet. Although as far as I'm aware, this will eventually affect the entire Country. Although to what extent, I don't know. You might be lucky.

What would be the chances of having RM for constructive dismissal due to unreasonable commuting times? :hmmmm

That's a good idea! So far, I've been lucky. We actually moved closer to where I live. But as for the many who've been moved from places like Crewe, for example. It'd be well worth them getting legal advise. Particularly those on part-time contracts.
