NE MAIL CENTRE CLOSURES
Newcastle , Middlesborough and Darlington to new Tyneside MC
Bradford and York into Leeds MC
Doncaster and Hull into Sheffield
To take effect 2012 and we are in a 90 day consultation period.
Both inward and outward operations are to cease at the closing sites and staff are to be offered the opportunity to transfer to the three reamining offices, how anyone would wish to spend and hour and half travelling from Hull to Sheffield and back every day is lost on me. We are all to get a letter on Saturday morning explaining everything and it will give us the whole weekend to consider it and get all our anger out before we return for next weeks work on Monday.
They did manage to tell us verbally this morning

Re: NE MAIL CENTRE CLOSURES
We were told today that all 4 Mail Centres serving Kent are to close and be merged into one. They're selling the site for one, (can't remember which one) but not the other three as they won't get enough money for them.
Seems today is D-Day for MC's.

Hi All.
Are you guys blind just over the hills in the North West they are shutting Bolton Crewe Liverpool ( Oldham Stockport already Gone ) There will be only two mail centre left Manchester and Preston.
Crewe will have to travel around 80 miles round trip so the answer to your question is they do expect you to travel long distances.
Thats why the vote of no confidence went in about Martin Collins is everyone awake now because it going to hit you very hard.

"In addition to the job security commitments contained in the MTSF Agreement - Royal Mail and CWU confirm that the overarching objective is to deliver the transformation without recourse to compulsory redundancies." - from Pg 8 of the Business transformation agreement
Without the deal the closure programme would have still gone ahead, but we could of had compulsory redundancies with no MTFS and a lot lower severence payments

Canterbury
Maidstone
Tonbridge
Dartford.
Maidstone is being sold as it is in prime retail area,i believe that they have had an offer already, the rest will be used to fold other DO's in as it is not viable in the present climate to sell.

Re: NE MAIL CENTRE CLOSURES
But say there are about 320 delivery jobs in those four mail centre's.People may need for example 15 years service or more to get a delivery job.How many jobs will go on processing also?.bandit650 wrote:pinstripe wrote:We were told today that all 4 Mail Centres serving Kent are to close and be merged into one. Knowing RM, they'll probably shove them in with Gatwick...hubbahubba wrote: Anyone heard anything about any south coast closures,BH,SO,PO regions?
And after a while, you can work on points for style,
Like the club tie, and the firm handshake,
A certain look in the eye and an easy smile.
You have to be trusted by the people that you lie to,
So that when they turn their backs on you,
You'll get the chance to put the knife in.

Re: NE MAIL CENTRE CLOSURES
From what i have understood from it all is that the DO's will still have the staff in them with no forced to go from the business
Maidstone Do will be put into a new purpose built delivery office because thier building has been or will be sold off,not sure how many from where i am will go up to new office but thats the whole idea it's a new way of streamling the business.
