Bolton & Wigan and Crewe Mail Centre Closures

Post by DickTurpin »

Morning Fellow Posties.

I work in Liverpool Mail Center and i would like to know what's the latest news from Bolton & Wigan and Crewe Mail Centre's, are they closing or not.

Liverpool is supposed to be moving to Warrington later this year as some of you will be aware of, it's moving along with Bolton & Wigan & Crewe. I would like to hear from colleagues from these offices who can tell me what is going on at the moment.

We keep hearing different rumours in our place and they are all being denied at the moment by the powers that be.

The latest ones are the move might be put back until next year, only 2% of staff are moving to Warrington from Crewe and the staff from Bolton & Wigan want to move to Manchester.

Oh and :mfo :cfo

Down here at Crewe things are just as sketchy.
Only about 2% want to move from Crewe to Warrington but many more will as they have no alternative as only a handful of jobs will remain.
Many want VR
We were due to have 1-2-1s this week but they have been postponed with no future date set.
Have had no new info from management or CWU for ages.
How many will be moving from Liverpool ?

I would say more than 65% of the work force will be going to Warrington, as you say a lot of people want VR but know they might not get it.
Our 1-2-1's have been put back until next week so we've being told and we haven't had any Work Time Learning sessions either.

Some staff have applied for a Walk and only a few have got jobs in the new Hubs.

I just wish they would sort things out and tell us properly once and for all, the truth. After all it's peoples lively hoods at stake here.

Thanks for replying, if i hear anymore info I'll post it hear.

Hello,

You are not alone up there fella's,the same going on down sarf, huge unit aquired by Royal Mail in Hemel Hempstead, with rumours being chucked around that Hemel,Watford & Stevenage mail centers are to become one large mail center at the new location in Hemel.Like you guys say, managers shrug their shoulders and tell us they've heard nothing,it would be nice to know the truth.

Closures looming all over the country - we've been told that Bristol want the Gloucester mail and will almost certainly get it.

Would be nice to have the management just say clearly for once "This is what we're doing and why."

The 1-2-1s began today ,offering VR to those 55 and over.

One postman asked for VR only at the first 1-2-1 before xmas, they informed him today he cant have it and only option is to work at Warrington....

Crewe Mail Centre now is history. As an ex Crewe MC employee, I can give the general picture overall.......
Those who had to transfer, to keep a job in order to keep paying for a family or mortgage, found it best to accept their job offers (under protest) . Those over 55 mostly took VR to get out of having to travel around 72 miles round trip, with VR offered to over 55s only. Part timers were eventually led best to take 2 or 2 and a half days at Warrington (do not know which they ended up with, personally) using the bus service offered by Royal Mail although some were leaving with nothing, a few more had jobs to walk in to elsewhere.
A few held out for VR or the buy down of their choice. The very latest is that still since June, VR cannot be gotten for under 55s, no matter how much resistance is tried :nana . All the way through, Royal Mail told us nothing, ground us down slowly but surely, information requested was never received, some questions always dodged and a political answer given. And the North West Review Team would not dare share a WWL at Crewe :Applause :Applause (does that tell us anything ???) ;liar :evil/mad .
The decision 1 2 1s were due to be held in January 2010, but delayed till June, due to the ballot result and VR issues that needed ironed out. So the limbo period was quite long at Crewe. And in terms of distance required, Crewe got the worst deal by far, if you compare to the rest of the North West Review.
I heard rumour that the bus from Bolton to Warrington did not last long, maybe a couple of weeks :Applause :Applause :Applause. If true, can just show just how much we can rely on Royal Mail to keep to their basic MTFS responsibilities !!!
Now, coming to a Mail Centre near you, if unlucky enough to be affected, maybe this is a guide, although the limbo period might not drag on so long as it did at Crewe

Seems they are using the same tactics in London. We were told on Friday that 2 mcs and WCDO will close with 973 job losses.
But they would not tell us when this is going to happen, saying we will be told later.
Apparently we will be given the opportunity to transfer to HWDC, where there will be 300 extra jobs with the transfer of
Inward Foreign mail from Mount Pleasant. But it's a long and difficult journey from London, and not many people are likely to
want to go there, unless they already live near there.

HWDC a long way from any public transport (guess the Picadilly line would be the nearest tube line)?

I don't think it's near any tube line. It's not near Heathrow airport, AFAIK, and I think you have to get a train
from Paddington, then a bus.

I guess the tube travel time would be 1hr+ depending on where in London someone lives

The total time from London to HWDC would be about 90minutes +.
That's 3hours+ travelling each day.
When HWDC was set up about 8-9 years ago, RM invited staff from Mount Pleasant to transfer there.
I believe about 100 expressed an interest, but when they found out how much travelling was involved, only a couple went.
