OHS

Post by heathrow86 »

Has anybody used the OHS before and if so what are they like? I currently work afternoons in Logistics unit, however my eldest daughter has kidney problems and has to have dialysis 4 times a week. 3 afternoons a week and a Saturday morning. We have been relying on my Mother in law to look after my other 2 children, but she is getting on a bit. So I may need to do earlies. Now we are having a revision very soon and I may well end up on a shift that won't suit me. Should I go to the OHS and get the ball rolling tell them my problem? My line managers know about the situation but have told me to sort it out myself.

In my experience, they're of little or no use. But sadly, you have to go through them, to get anything like that arranged.

The only time they were any use, was when I was sent to see a Councillor at Coppras Hill. He was great, and got me the help I needed. But there have been many other times, that I needed their help. And they made things worse than they would have been, if they'd kept their noses out. And allowed the NHS to do their jobs without interferance!

The issue isn't about the OHS, it's about being able to look after your kids.

The answer may be to apply for "family friendly" duties under the flexible working arrangements.
