health and safety forums

Post by thehappyones »

Hi there
any Mail Centres got H&S forums and if so what you think about them
The only reason people get lost in thought is because it's unfamiliar territory.

Don't have forums but have H/S reps on each shift who report back to the Area H/S rep who meets regularly with Area Management. Otherwise its down to the IR reps to ensure H/S is enforced and not curcumvented by over eager line mangers. You can also use a Draw group if you have one to bring any H/S enfringment to management attention.

Great in theory, but always seem to get bogged down with "why is the choccy machine always empty?" dumb questions, all the while ignoring the important things, such as postie managers pushing/pulling two Yorks at the same time, or operators hanging their coats off machine E-stops.

Yes we have H&S Forums at Bristol Mail Centre.

They meet bi-monthly and are a great way of sharing info/problems between shifts, i.e. Promlems that occur on the early shift can be shared with the night shift. You will always get the silly question as Tman posted above, the same as any CWU Rep gets i.e. "Why is my pay short?" and the classic "Why wasnt my overtime paid?".
