Re: Daventry
All there is is rumours, very little information about it. The new Midlands Parcel Hub will be highly automated, to a point where it’s not certain that there will be jobs there for all the current workers at the NDC site.
The NDC site will close, landlords eager to see Royal Mail out of there on schedule!
Rumours suggest that the new site will employ 400 drivers, much of the work from regional sites - Birmingham, Wolverhampton, South Mids - will move there. Someone suggested Atherstone may move there but I doubt the new site will be large enough, let’s face it - they never are !

Re: Daventry
Usually have a chat with whoever’s in gatehouse when I visit NDC, they’re keen to know whether they’ll be gatehouse jobs at the new parcel hub. They’ve been told that information cannot be revealed as there’s an embargo, I can’t imagine which of our competitors may benefit from knowing - they all built their hubs years ago ! A manager did say that the gatehouses will be unmanned, imagine how smoothly that will run when contractors turn up and the foreign-born driver with limited English language hasn’t a clue what’s in the trailer !

Re: Daventry
Our local mail centre has an unmanned gatehouse and the security is non existent, members of the public often tailgate RM vans through the barrier.

Re: Daventry
On reflection I realise most are unstaffed, all I have visited recently have the ID card scanner to allow drivers based there to get in, and regular visiting drivers can have their card programmed in - if that Office can be bothered to make the effort ! Otherwise it’s a button push to either be let in if you’re recognised or have a confusing debate with whoever eventually answers ! S’pose it’s the larger RDC’s and Hubs that have staffed gates, PRDC, SW, YDC, Bagington, NDC are ones that I’ve visited recently and spring to mind. So if the Midlands Parcel Hub doesn’t have a staffed gate it will buck that trend and the queues that plague NDC regularly with its 2 in-gates will pale into insignificance!
Is unstaffed a thing ? It seemed less clumsy than unpersoned ! See what the PC Police have done to me !!!
