2 of our MC's are due to close, they are flogging the buildings and the New super dooper MC and the surrounding ones we will use ain't going to be able to WS the whole of Londons mail.
Chances are that your local MC (the current and eventually the new one) will have some CSS machines and will run stuff through their iLSM/LSM in sequencing mode. Does your DO have any CSS machines at the moment. AFAIK when a DO has any CSS machines they will sequence mail for other offices as well as their own but will sequence the mail for the other offices before their own.

I have heard talk of uncertainty about the future of Derby M/C from a few managers. The split level layout of the building, poor access for lorries and the high land value of the current location makes the centres days look numbered. Also they have been doing a lot of cosmetic work to the building such as painting and decorating tarting the place up etc possibly for future sale?

Bet it will be going in with Nottingham or Sheffield...

There are rumours of a new MC being built at East Midlands airport to take Derby, Leicester and Nottingham. That would seem strange as all other MCs are in cities or large towns. Derby will definately close due to it's site. Another possibility is that Derby could go into Nottingham if there is space and Leicester into South Mids at Northampton. I understand that both Nottingham and Leicester MCs are cramped for space.

Not all of them. Warrington MC, is actually a few miles outside of Warrington, on the former site of an RAF base. It was put there because of the transport links. I don't know the area you're talking about. But perhaps that also has particularly good transport links. After all: They're covering rediculously large areas now, so transport links are vital. :hmmmm

RM will not publish a list of MCs it's going to close because of the 90 day consultation process. The new CEO has stated that the pace of Ops transformation needs to be stepped up so we are likely to see the rest announced early next year. The following are likely to close because of their size, proximity to other MCs or that they can't be expanded:- Truro, Swansea, Portsmouth, Gloucester, Worcester, Shrewsbury, Derby, Leicester, Cambridge and Ipswich. There will be others but some small MCs may survive, processing 1st class only, due to their remote location:- Norwich, Carlisle and Inverness.
The following clusters are uncertain as to what will happen:-

Peterborough/Cambridge/Norwich/Ipswich
Derby/Nottingham/Leicester
Southampton/Portsmouth/Dorset
Truro/Plymouth/Exeter

The Hooper report said the current number of MCs should be halved and this info could only have been suggested internally so the final number will be approx 34 remaining.

He's right about half of the mail centres remaining. There will be a massive cut. But will require further investment/new builds...Some of these city centre MC's such as PO Mail Centre serve as a DO, Crown Office, Distribution etc. so not so easy.

Yes by looking at what's happened in the past and by talking to people in the areas. The info re MC closures is very hard to find as the people in the know are sworn to secrecy but if you look at past concentrations and the recently announced areas:-
North East, Yorkshire, Home Counties,Kent and London, you can see whats going on. New builds are only taking place in areas where there is no suitable new type MC already. Swindon has been extended and so will Leeds and Newcastle, cheaper than building from scratch. Hemel is a new building but already built.

I hear all PO 2c now going to SO,but they (SO) have limited space, and i think the Airport that they are based next to is interested in the site as a 2nd terminal,so a possible move somewhere on the M27/M3 motorway links possible? All rumours at present, but no smoke without fire.... :hmmmm

Fmrpostie is right about the PO building and it's other uses besides an MC. Version I've heard is that it's going to be one of the new breed of super DOs, with SO taking all the O/W mail.
At some later date they'll be a huge MC combining PO and SO areas' mail somewhere on the M27 corridor and PO's building sold to recoup the cost (SO's being rented).
