Any updates on POMC?

First off,to answer SP's question,NO SOMC probably couldn't handle PO outward and inward with the current setup,BUT the canteen is on its last legs,and there are some offices on the ground floor that are only studwalls,so with a but of thought more processing space could be found,if it would be enough is another question?
Another option that RM could use would be to process all SO/SP/PO 2c packets (parcels ) at a different site,maybe a purpose built parcel depot for the whole southcoast(only guesswork on my part).If that was done,they could then make the early shift a day shift 0900-1700,as that is roughly the time the streamline and DSA arrives,and you would have a load more space where the outward parcels used to be sorted.
As for the Cowes/SO ferry crossing,the traffic issues Richie mentions wouldn't be as bad because Westquay/Ikea are further up the road in the opposite direction to which a driver would take to get to SOMC.

Even if all this was to happen,the late shift would still struggle,as PO has a few bulk posters (Wiggle/Liz Earle) who post a lot of 24hr tracked items,but i dare say RM have shut/merged plenty of MC's in the past with similar issues,so why should this stop them?

I am very surprised that someone from Southampton would want to encourage sending their own 2c work from their mail centre to another site,let alone pompey's mail as well.
Who do you think would do this work,probably casuals !!!
Secondly I am sure all of your early shift would love to work 0900-1700 hours every day

Inferring someone could be a manager because he has a different opinion is a weak and pointless argument, and in this case factually incorrect.

Managers are fully entitled to an opinion, and are welcome to post on here as long as its an honest opinion not a regurgitated press release. Although they can post a press release if they want, as long as the also provide links or make it clear that's what it is.

The counter point to your position is that it could be better to try and get into what Royal Mail is thinking as you can then plan your reaction or campaign before they announce what their plan is. A case of "Failure to Plan is Planning to Fail". I suppose its all down to whether your a re-actionary or a pro-active person.

I am sure the processing staff at Southampton would appreciate their canteen closing in order to increase the floor space available

Royal Mail have already stated that they plan to build a new super centre in Hampshire. So anything that goes to SMC could only be short to medium term.

A new build takes 2 - 3 years now.

200 jobs staying in Portsmouth too.

As TBT said,i was just trying to work out how "they" might try to shoehorn 2MC's into 1.

All i am doing is guessing,albeit on a forum amongst "friends",hardly knocking on the MCM door is it,or are you too stupid to know the difference?

I also think you'll find its WORLD class mail,btw,which i certainly have never had anything to do with.

If we end up going on strike i will be on the picket line,as i have done,when needed,since being employed by RM for many years.Will you?

Can't see that happening, a developer would want the whole site, more likely they'll move to a new site on one of the city's industrial estates

There may be late turn driving jobs too as someone will have to do the boxes, TSOs and customers in the afternoon/evening (oh and then there's the Hovercraft ). It would make more sense to have van drivers based at Pompey and the mail they collect taken to SOMC by 600/17 tonner, rather than have a fleet of transits travelling to and from SOMC every day!

And while we're at it spoke to logistics drivers today. The opinion is that SOMC doesn't have any spare vehicle capacity for loading/unloading. So either SOMC needs to be modified or it will be chaos when they take (even more) of our mail
