Not every one-liner requires an answer, just the ones with a ? at the end. It isn't rocket science.

Info, or opinions/gossip/stuff on here, presented as facts?

Not much to base a judgement on, is it? :hmmmm
Ahhh now I see why people to run into problems with RMC especially if they think just because it's posted in black and white that other people believe its gospel.. Can I just point out, even though I have already, that nothing on here should be taken as fact without double checking sources.

Coming at it from another angle - how can anyone tell if people are posting an opinion, a supposition, a rumour, gossip or iron clad fact. I can't even when they post "FACT" I check up on it if it interests me - I am surprised if no one else does.

If it is irrelevant then i apologise but i thought that your point was people were too ready to comment on things they knew nothing about.
I just wanted to know from which position you commented from...info or rumour?
I didn't comment, I merely wondered how many (who chose to comment) actually were involved, and how many were merely following the flock. Whether I'm involved is neither here nor there, but apology accepted.
Never considered the point that "people were too ready to comment on things they knew nothing about" as that's a seperate issue, but now you come to mention it... :hmmmm

{
Although you haven't answered yet how you'd know canteen BS from info.... }
Some in this thread,some in others,the clue usually is 'In my MC...'
Your turn.
Errr...what? Have you mixed threads and answers there, POSTIE old chap?

'You' said the below...

To which i answered the 1st quote. :neutral:
Because you said...
I know you did, but how you would know it's "info" and not Chinese whispers passed on by those not involved..?
Re read the thread,quote properly,and un skip the skipped posts.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The only references which appear are in regard to the three awards given to Royal Mail.
i dont know if there is a website. Its done by professor yamashina. Fiat are using it as are volvo i think. there are others if you google it. There is not a wcm website as such but it, itsnt made up by rm.

the only thing different is the use of the word mail instead of manufacturing.

The World Class Manufacturing Association apparently does not exist.
Try wikapedia or any other forum online, try it.
The problm is RM has been scammed yet again by a consultancy firm who will get paid regardless of the out come.
In my opinion the talent to achieve a World class mail is already there on the floor and walks.
Considering Royal mail has been around for centuries we should be at a point where royal mail is doing consultancy work for TNT and UPS and telling them how to achieve an efficient mail service.
Having worked for RM for only 7 yrs I can see that the planning and the management is overweight and a lot of time seems to e spent on justifying there existance in that role, eg the arrival of WCM pillar leaders and other made up positions.
As in manufacturing the cull will start at the bottom with 25 hour contracts and an increase in agency which means an increase in the bullying which results in retaliation by the agency by decreasing there work efficiency working to the letter of instruction etc. which results in an increase in the amount of people employed on minimum wage which results in a higher agency bill which the accountants will eventually demand a reduction etc lah blah lah.
In my observations I have noticed that most staff at NDC does more than they are required to do and the drivers are reasonaly flexible in their attitude if you play fair with them. If we worked to the planning and rules as laid down by RM by overpaid idiots nothing would get done efficiently.

The jobs were gone before the scheme even properly took off, if anyone is to blame it is the staff for agreeing with terms the union agreed upon with Royal Mail the last time we were on strike. Royal Mail turned it into an argument about money and that is ultimately all we got out of the agreement, that and the introduction of the modernisation plan which obviously disguised job losses.

I used to be against the WCM scheme as all I saw was people drawing posters or suggesting downright stupid ideas that would mean making simple tasks much more difficult. However I was added to the areas team and attended a 25hour workshop to get things rolling on our area. The 25hour workshop has completely changed my opinion on the scheme as I can clearly see the ideas behind it.
We collected a massive amount of data ranging from man hours to the time it takes to process a single piece of mail on our area. The whole process was eye opening and from the first 5hours of the workshop you knew just how bad the situation was and what solutions could be applied to help fix/prevent the issues.

The sorts of changes we have made, or will be making, are;
Reducing the distances work needs to be conveyed.
Removing a couple hours of overtime which is only ever assigned to one person because they are friends with the shift manager.
Bringing in over £10k's worth of equipment to replace the ancient stuff we are already using.
Ensuring the shift before ours sets up our area and we do the same for the next shift.
Clearly defining our operation and its needs so that new staff can start processing work much quicker than normal.
Engaging with other areas and their needs to ensure we operate efficiently and productively.

Obviously there are many more changes we have made but those are the main ones.

Some will argue that it will lead to overtime reductions and job losses but that is simply unavoidable and I will say it is long overdue.
For those who think the managers will turn a blind eye and get away with it, think again. Unfortunately for them they will be held responsible if the area is not as it should be or does not perform to its WCM standards.
Under the WCM scheme the staff actually can flag managers and they will be dealt with, we were also clearly told that managers consistently ignoring the scheme will be looking for a new job. This was also clearly noted in our WTLL video updates from the Mail Centre Manager.

World Class Mail is not going away so you will either have to get on board now or start looking for a new job. My advice is get on board and at least have a say in your work areas future rather than burying your head in the sand hoping it is all just a dream.

Oh, and a quick list of companies, that I can confirm, that use the World Class (aka Six Sigma) scheme;
Volvo
Fiat
Maserati
Bentley
Toyota
Hewlett & Packard
Rover/Land Rover/MG
Chrysler

Fortunately I am not, just a 20hr/pw OPG. Have been for the last 8-9 years and always will be.

One thing I should add to my lengthy post is that WCM is not just about making the areas of work more efficient and productive but it is also about changing the culture of the work force.
Too many lazy sods who object to change simply because it means they actually have to come in and do what they are paid for, trust me, I was one of those lazy sod :chuckle

hubbahubba :no no nearly but not quite. Even if they are so what they are entitled to their opinions. The difference on here is that we can discuss it with them like adults, unlike in the office when the discussion always ends up with them walking away or saying those mortal words "I'll check and get back to you" :chuckle :chuckle :chuckle :chuckle

How do you get to be a pillar?
Do you apply for the post or do you just have to stand still for a long time to get the appointment?
I want to be one.
