Transfer to any London mail centre?

I'm there now and we have literally hundreds of vacancies (so much so that some Christmas casuals are actually being given fixed term contracts.) It really depends how liberal Royal Mail is going to be with EVRs when it comes to the two mail centres that are closing. Seeing as how few people transfered from Mount Pleasant recently, you might be able to slip through the cracks.

Are you sure there are open vacancies? Cos I still haven't heard a peep from anyone! If there are jobs being given to outside staff before they consider internal transfer applications I've got grounds to make a complaint haven't I? I'm not suggesting that I'm the only person in the country queuing up for a transfer in to HWDC, but if there are hundreds of vacancies I'd hoped I would've heard something by now!

So are you saying that the positions currently available are only for staff from the closing London mail centres? I'm trying to get to HWDC or anywhere in London from Plymouth MC so does that mean I'm not able to fill those vacancies?

I just rang Sheffield to find out where I am on the list, all they did was give me the Email address you'd already given me! I'll send them an Email and see what they say.
Also, seeing as you've been at HWDC for 5 years, could you clarify the London weighting question for me? Is it paid or not? On average, how much does a full time (not nights) member of staff take home a week? I'm only asking as I need to know if waiting for this transfer is going to be worth my while anyway!

Hi there,
There is no london weighting at HWDC, but there are the following payments: RRIS supplement £27.50, HWDC flex allowance £7.74 and HWDC function supplement £20.53. I'm not sure on the take home pay on days, but add your basic pay of £353.77 to the above and guesstimate your net from that for early shift. I gather that you have put HWDC as one of your selections on your transfer request and RM select current employees before outsiders for the available vancancies. But here's the kicker; when Rathbone Place W1 closes next year, the staff there- and the other two London MCs possibly- would be offered jobs at HWDC and probably jump the transfer queue, as your MC is not going to close yet, I believe. Have you put Greenford, and Jubilee MCs on your list as you're allowed up to five options? Whether there are positions available right now at HWDC for people who use the normal transfer process, I couldn't tell you. Some of our agency staff were given short term contracts recently and Oxford MC is closing, so people from there will be joining us shortly. I'd say take the first office that becomes available on your list that you applied for, because that's what I'm going to do.

I've been on transfer list for 2 1/2 yrs now. Trying to transfer from service delivery to logistics. I've put down Woking and Croydon (2 1/2 yrs) HWDC (just recently) All I keep hearing is all transfers frozen due to modernisation. Basically they are completely doing away with vacant duties when a revision comes around, or they are filling them with temp contracts so when London mail centres close they can fill the duties the temp contracts on at moment.

I was thinking of questioning whether if you are a long term fixed contract employee you should in theory take precedence over someone who is a temp contract if they were to renew that contract. As I think then they are not Planning to do away with the duty? But I still think I'd get no where. Basically given up hope now really. I've tried contacting everyone I can think of and all you get is very unlikely at the moment. Hope you have more luck than me :-)

I'm looking to get to HWDC next week for the first time. I know you get there on the piccadilly line but I was not sure what Heathrow terminal to get off at does anyone know?

Basically, you have two choices. You take the Picadilly line to Terminal 1,2,3 and then a First bus from outside the Central bus station, routes 75/76. Getting to the station is easy. You just take the escalators opposite the tube station when you exit.

I haven't ever taken it but there's a TFL bus you can take from... central hounslow? It's a bit cheaper but it doesn't bring right to the front of HWDC.

There is no prospect of getting a transfer to either Croydon or Romford as these are over subscribed from the fall out of the London Mail Centre planned clousres. There is also little chance of you getting a transfer to Greenford as first choice of thses jobs go to the Mount after their resign and then to both South London and East London staff.

Now Royal Mail cannot get hardly one to go to Jubilee and have already moved back the transfer of SW London inward by 6 months as a result of this. So you may find it easier to try and request Jubilee. However the timing of this will have to link with the transfer of the SW inward scheduled for the end of July subject to the Olympics.

With regards to HWDC there are numerous numbers of casuals in there and in particular the outhouse but my guess is that at the moment they are reluctant to take anyone but I would suggest you take up your transfer request with the union at an higher level. Good Luck.

There's a resign due to take place really soon at HWDC. Duty lists haven't been put out yet but they were agreed this week and the whole thing is supposed to go into effect by 18 August. The only reason I mention it is because according to the agreement between management and the union, after the resign takes place, transfers in are supposed to get priority for any vacancies afterwards.

Sorry, I don't know who'd you contact but for what it's worth, I'm getting this from official agreements/announcements put up on the CWU bulletin board, not from "heard from a guy who heard from a guy..."

Hiya I know they want to cut jobs Processing have just had a Preference exercise at JMC. So transfers are impossible maybe see if anyone wants to swap Mail Centres. Depending where you live Have you thought of PRDC on the NCR?
