Hi all. I applied for and had a driving assessment for Class 1 local to me.
I was told I needed 20 hours of additional training before they'd consider it.
Anyone know if this is a standard induction or if it's what it says on the tin?
They've told me my line manager will provide dates etc but I've not heard anything in about a month. Other department managers have inferred it's an induction etc.
What's the deal?

Yep, it is something I have heard of and is standard within RM. We have had a few guys need a 20hr brush up for C+E driving at our VOC, it usually entails being placed with a work place coach or ADC as they are known in HGV world. It’s really more of a one on one extension of an assessment but with coaching to help you along the way. Also it’s worth mentioning, I noticed in a previous comment you posted on the DPD job thread in the Blue shirts section, HGV drivers in RM are monthly paid not weekly. Im not being an arse just wanted to clarify so that you are aware. Also again being made to wait for the training or dates for training isn't normally a quick process, sorry to say. You may get lucky and get it sooner because of Xmas pressure to get you through and ready to go, or indeed you may be kept waiting as ADC’s are possibly busy assessing agencies for the Xmas pressure period which can start as early and be needed as early as Nov. Good luck hope you get lucky soon.

I knew the line about the shift from weekly to monthly tbh, but in every office I've worked in, when someone comes off processing/postal etc they've always referred to the 7.5t as the wagons. It goes without saying that Class 1/2 are also wagons, but I digress.Whinealot wrote: ↑14 Sep 2025, 02:17Yep, it is something I have heard of and is standard within RM. Thanks for the extra titbits about the training. It's much appreciated.
I thought it may just be a communication thing as my lino is hard to find on a quiet day
