I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Like most rm stories they do not let the keyers/postman who will tell the truth anywhere near the reporters,as for the computer screen there less than 5% of flat screens like that one, most keyers do not even know what a imp machine is let alone know what one does.

I don't think the job is too bad at all, can be boring and tedious with very little chance of advancement but thats part of the job.

Sounds like my description of a walking postmans job. The job itself is ok and if they left us alone to get on with it it would be a brilliant job. Its all the extra bits that are mainly political that wind me up.

It's all a matter of perspective, which side of the fence you are looking from.

Reading the bit you quoted it looks as though POSTMAN was looking through the rose tinted lenses issued for the Courier writers.

To be honest, I've had much worse jobs than this. If fact, I've worked in some real vile s**t-holes and the MDEC isn't one of them.

When it comes down to it, the MDEC is a pretty cushy little number, as long as you're not the ambitious, driven type, as opportunities for progression are fairly limited. They do exist, of course, but you have to swallow your pride, suppress any traces of personality, intellect and individuality you may have, and bury your nose in a hell of a lot of arses.

There are a lot of people there who would make better managers than the current shower, but they just aren't willing to compromise their values and be absorbed into that Borg-like entity we call RM management. Hence, the only people who get promoted are those who are totally unsuitable for the job, which is why the current MDEC management is such a bloody shambles. But hell, that's just corporate culture in general, it's the same in any large company.

The only thing that really bugs me (and probably others) are the seemingly endless, inexplicable and petty rules and regs regarding things that don't really matter, which are handed down from them upstairs like Stalinist directives: "From this week, people slurping their coffee too loudly in the break areas will be dragged through the conduct code until they resemble those sludgy bits you get in the powder trays of washing machines." That sort of thing.

And, of course, the endless dumbing down of the keying rules, which means that keyers who actually have any sort of knowledge are now penalised for it.

But to be honest, I've been there nearly six years, and still can't bring myself to hate it as much as I'd like to.

Am I going peculiar?
You can't beat the system, but you can give it a bloody good kicking.
