It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

Trawling this site I've seen posts that talk about Stockport (Cheadle) closing in 2015 ?
Would that be right - or was it only a temporary closure ?

I also see that the old Plymouth MDEC building at Pennycomequick was sold to the University of Plymouth in 2018.
I assume the Plymouth MDEC moved to new premises ?

Genuinely can't remember, will send an email out to the MDEC group, see if any of them follow up.
Be good to buck them up, see if they're still alive.

Plymouth Pennycomequick MDEC moved to Plymstock Mail Centre after a number of rounds of VR reduced staffing levels.

Stoke is still in the Stoke CSC building and I think Stockport MDEC was moved to Bolton (or thereabouts), I'm sure it was an old PO site where the Ask Allan/Moya team were once stationed......??

LTB 379/18 Royal Mail: Four Pillars Agreement - 40 Minute Reduction in the Working Week for Manual Data Entry Centres (MDEC's)
29th June 2018
ROYAL MAIL: FOUR PILLARS AGREEMENT – 40 MINUTE REDUCTION IN THE WORKING WEEK FOR MANUAL DATA ENTRY CENTRES (MDEC’s)
....
The three MDEC sites (Farnworth, Plymouth and Stoke) now process an average of circa 8.6 million items per week as opposed to an average of 27.5 million in 2013.
The abbreviated post above says three MDEC sites, with no mention of Stockport (or Bolton) ??
Is that right ?

That total number of items per week sounds a fair bit too low which makes me think that the MDECs might only service IMPs with possibly Solystic doing their own MDEC work

So the answer is now three - Farnworth, Plymouth and Stoke (unless, of course, someone from another MDEC posts up to the contrary).

When exactly did Stockport (Cheadle) MDEC close ? Sometime in 2015 ??

Yes, I believe there are three MDECs - Plymstock, Stoke and Farnworth and a relief MDEC at Doxford (Sunderland) in December.

As well as letters and flats, MDEC also now deal with parcels (for the Parcel Sorting Machines).
