MARTIN LUTHER KING

Post by Codebreaker »

Martin Luther King is, and has been for 20+ years, one of my all time heroes.

This is the link to his speech “I have a dreamâ€
It is from numberless diverse acts of courage and belief that human history is shaped. Each time a man stands up for an ideal, or acts to improve the lot of others, or strikes out against injustice, he sends forth a tiny ripple of hope, and crossing each other from a million different centers of energy and daring, those ripples build a current that can sweep down the mightiest walls of oppression and resistance.

Great post codebreaker and you know i'll do everything I can to help you realise that dream.

I feel that we are almost within touching distance of achieving that goal. The strikes, our campaign and this site have all helped to raise the profile of the CWU at MDEC. There is now a clearly defined line between us and management. I understand from my area rep that Over 150 new members have been recruited in MDEC in last few months.

This is also down to work by reps like YOU mate.

You are now starting to feel pressure from management locally. The intensity of their actions is as strong as ever. This is not because the CWU are out of line or because something out of order has been said. It is because people (keyers) are finally starting to see that (to coin a well used phrase) another world is possible and the management training manual didn't contain that!

All good CWU reps will tell you to wear these management tactics like a badge of honour. You've p****d them off because of the job you have done. The early shift members can be / are very proud.

On Tuesday / Wednesday our branch will start to pump comms into every unit again as we either look to reignite support for strike action or explain where the talks are.

I am one of mdec employees on reserved rights pay, I have campaigned since I arrived in plymouth to try and end the disparity in pay, I just hope that certain keyers who have steadfastly refused to partake in i/a, even those who hold cwu positions and still did not take part in i/a are grateful to those who have taken i/a in a attempt to address the issue of disparity in mdec pay.

Fantastic post Codebreaker - you've just summed up the 5 years plus of alienation and rejection myself and our colleagues have experienced as part (or not!!) of the Royal Mail network.
