MDEC Keyers and the CWU

Post by MrCrisp »

Here at Plymouth MDEC the number of people who are members of the CWU is really low in comparison to the number of people who work here.

What do people think are the reasons why so few MDEC workers want to join the CWU? It can’t be because of the miniscule cost of being a member, surely.

Musings of a DO Postman

Its the same in the last line of work I was in a call centre. Perhaps the type of work involved does not engender Union values. It also helps that in MCs, MDC SOs and DOS we have far greater one to one and group contact and this must help to keep membership ratio quite high.

You MDeCers work in sweat shop conditions if its anything like what I used to do, and perhaps also at the MDeCs they brief against Unions just like they used to do at the call centre I worked.

The actual CWU membership for Plymouth is around 50%, the main reason why staff may not join is cause on the late shift you have a transient work force made up of mostly students, the staff turnover on that shift is horrendous, staff are continuously recruited just to try and maintain the status quo.Where as on the other shifts membership is higher as longer term staff have more concerns of future prospects within Royal Mail.

The reps on shift work really hard to try and get the message across of the benefits of the CWU, but unfortunately students in particular do not look at the bigger picture, just what is directly in front of them.

The number of people in the Union at Stoke MDEC is fairly low as well. This is probably because of who the Union Rep is. I know he gets a lot of protection from this forum and his cabel, but half of the people at Stoke MDEC know he’s a complete waste of space, as well as liar, bully and manipulator.

Oh well…if karma exists he’s in for a rough time in the near future.

I second that emotion...

Couldn’t agree more, Squirrel. :Applause

Question is, does the CWU know about his past. I doubt it.

i find it amazing that people moan so much about the stoke mdec union rep yet the job position has not been filled by these people who are so quick to comment and moan about it for at least a year. i happen to know the union rep at stoke mdec and know that he does a good job and certainly is not protected by staff or managers.i think some people on here simply dont like him becasue he has done things the legal and propper ways and im sure that if anyone was to report the issue to the head office that he would have nothing to fear.i think some people just have far to much free time on there hands if you ask me.

also wasnt he a sub rep first so thats twice he would of been voted in for both positions?i know he stood on the picket line every single time come rain or shine like he should of, even when the managers tried to call the police and have him removed for the official strikes but with no luck!-how the hell is that protected by managers you moron! but hes most unlike you other so called union members who just took the pay rise he and about 4 others got you and then moan about childish things behind his back.

maybe you should think of quiting the union if your so bothered about the bad job hes doing and save yourself a few pounds each month whislt the rest of us staff actually pay for his valued sevice! :Applause

Not again!

Ok people, and strange that most of you in this thread are new as well.
I have not protected any rep from stoke, but for some reason this subject seems to crop up now and again and i find it very weird.

While this message board is here for obvious reasons, and there are many subjects and watnots on here i'm lost as to why this subject keeps getting an airing.

As everyone is as anonymous as they want to be it is impossible to know who is who.
jonn claims to be the rep in question, but we can't take that as gospel, sorry jonn if you really are him but we have to be careful on here, especially for legal reasons.

So i'm afraid there will be no more talk of the stoke rep if you guys are that bothered go to your branch or like others have said stand against him.
I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
