Future Plans
I have a few idea's of my own but would like to see what other people have to say about these questions:
Where would you like see the MDEC's in five years, what do you think would happen from now until then?
Where do you think Royal Mail see the MDEC's in five year's, how do you think they are going to achieve this?

Re: Future Plans
If plans go ahead for walk sort machines, the mdec's will play a more important part than they currently do now.Mailbag wrote:I have a few idea's of my own but would like to see what other people have to say about these questions:

The idea being that we just throw them in our frame in double quick time as all the letters run.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

I agree, the best walk machine we have is your delivery postie, they know all about their customers, local changes that a machine will never grasp.POSTMAN wrote:It's a super duper machine (Which has been kicked out of other countrys for being crapMailbag wrote:whats a walk sort machine?) that RM want to put in,which when it sorts the letters it sorts them in the way the walk is in our frames.

If they are anything like the coded bundles that come out of the MCs sometimes we will be up bullshit creek with no paddle.POSTMAN wrote:It's a super duper machine (Which has been kicked out of other countrys for being crapMailbag wrote:whats a walk sort machine?) that RM want to put in,which when it sorts the letters it sorts them in the way the walk is in our frames.

Not passing comment on you hard working posties at MCs but sometimes 1/2 a bundle can be wrong.

That is cause customers add wrong code to letter, some mdec keyers spot this but one of the so called rules does not allow you to correct this, if you do and they check your work then you are marked wrong as you are supposed to key what you see, i personally do not care if i see wrong outcode i will add correct one.TrueBlueTerrier wrote:If they are anything like the coded bundles that come out of the MCs sometimes we will be up bullshit creek with no paddle.POSTMAN wrote:It's a super duper machine (Which has been kicked out of other countrys for being crapMailbag wrote:whats a walk sort machine?) that RM want to put in,which when it sorts the letters it sorts them in the way the walk is in our frames.

Once again this forum and its members throw light on a subject of which I was completely in the dark. Thanks very much indeed evilc.

The reason why they mark you wrong (as I'm sure you know) is because you are not allowed to use your knowledge as this can lead to errors and yet sometimes you can get things wrong for inputting data that you should know where the certain locality is. I generally key what I see, try not to correct postcodes if I need to get my "seeds" correct and key what I know the "seeds" require or try to key what I think the person marking wants me to key depending on the rules at the time. This works most of the time unless I am unfortunate and get caught out on typo's which happens to everyone from time to time.

As already stated I do not care ,if I see a customers letter with the wrong outcode I will correct it, I am also a ex phg and the older colleagues on here will know that we had to sort to all counties around the country so therefore the knowledge is ingrained,if it means that one day i get my seeds marked wrong then so be it but at least the letters have been sorted to the right destination.

Excuse me for being ignorant but what is an outcode?evilc wrote:Mailbag wrote:The reason why they mark you wrong (as I'm sure you know) is because you are not allowed to use your knowledge as this can lead to errors and yet sometimes you can get things wrong for inputting data that you should know where the certain locality is. i care more about the mail piece reaching the right place than i do my seed score.
If mdec trainers want to mark the accuracy of our work by these stupid rules and not by how much of the mail i type reaches its destinaion then thats not my problem. I'm employed to sort the mail which the machines cant sort on their own, so i will do that to the best of my ability
