It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The old shirts were blue..
Also being in RM for 20 yrs can remember the old waterproofs were yellow and we also had blazers and those long heavy donkey type jackets, can't remember what they were called..But when worn you looked like one of those bouncers on the doors of nightclubs.. Just needed that shades..He he

Yes I remember the dark grey and teddy boy summer grey suits - I loved the summer version best as they have been the only design which fitted me properly!! And yes we had to provide our own shoes - shirts etc and it used to annoy the managers etc because I only had bright colours ie red, yellow - looked wonderful but I wasn't into using my wages to buy their uniform - tight or what

Those summer Teddy Boy suits came out in 1981. We didn't get shirts issued until 1985/86. Before then, it was the grey uniform and any shirts or shoes you wanted. The blue uniform with red trim came out in 85 and 86. There were posters saying T-shirts, trainers etc should not be worn, but they couldn't stop anyone from wearing them. They started a scheme which sold blue or white shirts which could be purchased through deductions in pay early in the 80s but it didn't take off. Hi Postman 
Very 1st light grey Teddy boy style (summer uniform) Dark grey (winter uniform) were only
trousers & jackets shirts came later,may have some up in loft. and before that it was just
dark grey trousers jacket and waistcoat & tie (3 peice suit) & peeked cap with metal badge on the front
I still wear it in the rain, Black donkey jacket overcoat and white rain mack, unlike the americanised crap
we have to wear today, & before that it was dark blue trousers & jacket with gold piping & when it rained
the colour would run & stain your clothes & skin & very heavy material, that was b4 my time (ie 1971) but I remember my Dad wearing it.
No shoes or shirt.
And you had trust & respect for your managers, because they had earned it by doing everything b4 getting promoted
to managment, so they new what they were talking about,
Unlike the arse licking crettings we have to endure today!!!!!!!
