OUR photograph shows a group of rather smart looking gents.

They are Bolton postmen who in March, 1956 were given new uniforms.

From April they were expected to wear the new super tailored suits while out on their rounds.

Their uniforms look very different to the ones worn by posties today including the fact that today’s postmen can wear shorts in the summer. The Royal Mail van in the background is also a giveaway of the era in which the picture was taken.
