Pre 1999 Working Hours
Hi all,
can anyone comment on what where the official working hours before the 2000 way forward deal.Did it stand at 41.5hrs per week?
Also does anyone know if these 41.5 hrs a week had been standard practise long before 1999?
What were the hours per week in 1980-1999?
Thanks any info would be very helpful.

Pre 1999 Working Hours
If I can remember we used to do 45 hours a week at one time, I started in 1980s this was gradually reduced down to 43.5, 41 eventually 40 hours before the current hours now introduced of 37 hours.
I'm sure there are others about with more accurate information, I think I still have my original contract of employment and job description in my loft, when I get a moment I will dig it out.

Pre 1999 Working Hours
0545 or 0530 with a 1300 finish or 1245 and sat 0545 with 1030 or 1015 finish give or take a few minutes all duties were different then P318 ruled the world not some toss pot who cannot even tell what time of day it is these days!gibpostie wrote:Hi all,

Pre 1999 Working Hours
When I started as a postal cadet I'm sure it was 43 hours full time which was September 1988. Now it hardly matters anyhow as although it's 39 hours it takes what it takes and I rarely complete within 39 hours these days. Generally, I'm putting in 41/42 hours including break times. Even when it eventually goes down to a 35 hour week you'll still probably be doing 40 hours or so if you're on delivery side of things.

Pre 1999 Working Hours
Yes in 1999 it was 8 hrs 18 mins per full time duty, without extra driving, s/a attached on. 41 hrs 30 mins per week basic. But is GMC drivers could do as much docket during the week as wanted and at the weekend's Saturday and Sundays splitting the blue cages with Mailsort or English road diverts and that was with satpremium and Sunday double time.

Re: Pre 1999 Working Hours
Update to all:
We finally got a great deal
We have got our daily bonus approved as pensionable when we retire...great news nearly £7000 becomes pensionable.
Sorter salary has gone up to nearly £25,000 per year
Delivery staff salary up to nearly £22000.
All delivery walks have been shortened as 3 new delivery walks have been introduced.
We are currently 22 deliver staff(2 on driver duties)and we have 17 walks so only 3 stay out of sat overtime every week..before was up to 10 every week as we had 26 delivery staff.
still never a complete day with 100% manning levels as people call in sick every day.
thanks for all comments when i first posted.
